Duck Duck Go is great (like many other search providers including Yahoo! and Bing), but the sad fact is, none of them come close to the actual power and utility of Google search. I don't know about others, but I've tried leaving Google for others several times (chiefly due to privacy concerns), but I always find myself drawn back towards it. Try searching for something on Yahoo or Bing and then on Google, the difference is palpable. The sad thing is, they have a monopoly, so consumers don't have much choice but to use it to get 'just that search result' which was impossible to find on any other provider.
IIRC you and several others had a major issue with Google caught ignoring Safari users "Do Not Track" requests. Yesterday Yahoo had an announcement on how they'll handle users "Do Not Track" settings.
“As of today, web browser Do Not Track settings will no longer be enabled on Yahoo,” a company blog said. “As the first major tech company to implement Do Not Track, we’ve been at the heart of conversations surrounding how to develop the most user-friendly standard. However, we have yet to see a single standard emerge that is effective, easy to use and has been adopted by the broader tech industry.”

Yahoo yesterday announced that it will stop complying with Do Not Track signals that Web browsers send on behalf of users who wish to not be monitored for advertising purposes.

User tracking isn't a simple black and white issue apparently. Bing and even Windows 8.1 itself tracks users search requests too according to this:
