I am trying to learn here so no DIS intended. Can you give me a couple of countries where this is the case?
England and to some extent Ireland.
I am not aware of any myself (doesn't mean they do not exist) and I know I would like to know now the name of this type English ( e.g., US, US PC, US Extended, British, British PC...). I find it interesting that Apple is a collective noun or a verb - having trouble with the verb part myself.
The logic escapes me. I'm from the US but have traveled to the other side of the pond and frankly it makes reading literature, papers or whatever very strange and troubling. I've yet to hear a good explanation of the form myself.
    Best wishes.
