Rumor: Production for new iPad mini, iPad Air, & 5.5" 'iPhone 6' pushed to Sept.

A Friday morning rumor out of the Far East suggests that only one of Apple's next-generation handsets -- the 4.7-inch "iPhone 6" -- will be ready for launch at the company's anticipated September media event, as the larger 5.5-inch model will allegedly not even enter production until that month.

"iPhone 6" and "iPhone 6c" concepts by Martin Hajek.

This marks the latest in a string of reports that Apple will delay the launch of its rumored jumbo-sized iPhone until after its 4.7-inch sibling bows, though the latest report on Friday offers no explanation for the timing. The report comes from Taiwanese newspaper UDN and was first noted by GforGames.

Further, the paper suggests that initial production capacity will be limited. Capacity is expected to increase by as much as 85 percent in the fourth quarter, perhaps due to the addition of so-called "Foxbots," robots designed to aid assembly workers.

Apple is widely seen as continuing to split its iPhone lineup into two models for the future, increasing the display sizes to 4.7 and 5.5 inches and adding a new "A8" processor. The company could also choose to cover the display with sapphire, rather than Corning's Gorilla Glass, though the likelihood of such a move is hotly debated.

Relatively little is known about the next-generation iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display, though both tablets are also expected to benefit from Apple's new silicon. In addition, is it widely believed that Apple will bring the Touch ID fingerprint sensor introduced with the iPhone 5s to the tablet lineup.

Yay.. the nonexistent product, that never had any real leaks is conveniently now indefinitely delayed! ... now.. watch as they smoothly transition this fake report in the next month over from delayed for a few months to delayed to fall of next year so they have a fake thing to report for all of 2015!!! YES!

The plan is working! It's the Signified paradox of a report about nothing!

UPDATE.. oh.. and why does the title say the iPad air and min too, when the article/blog/sci-fiy writing says nothing about their being a delay about those? Good click bait title?

I now rate bloggers in the category at or below of a car salesman.. lies are just as good as truth these days as long as you don't fact check.

I like the iPad Pro rumor and then how the analyst mourned when the rumored product was rumored to have been canceled.

A rumor of a rumor must be true!

    Depends on

    1. Are they waiting for Broadwell?

    2. If so, can Apple get first access to any Broadwell chips off the line?

Given that the Air and the Mac Pro are their two best selling computers, it would make sense to see the MBA get the new chips first, but it is true that the Mini is getting long in tooth and a lot of devs would appreciate an update.

Can Apple rumor sites PLEASE stop reporting every time some Asian news source reports an unnamed product is in production or is going to be delayed. PLEASE. We seem to get these reports every week and often times they contradict each other which just proves how not credible they are.

But the "well-connected" Kuo said we'd get an iPad update in July/August.

Well, it's not working. AAPL is currently up +0.28% in an overall slightly bearish trading day.

Please standby as the rumor mill adjusts their questionable "knowledge" of Apple's internal plans...

AppleInsider doesn't care about credibility. They worship the Almighty Pageview. That's all that matters to tech rumor sites.

You mean The Street finally decided to call them on their "but but but we're investing on behalf of the customers just you wait" BS?

Apple may launch 4.7 inch phone with Sapphire display in September and bigger 5.5 inch phone with regular Gorilla Glass display ready for Christmas, both likely to be priced the same. Just guessing.

    Too bad for them.

However, that's not as bad as Pandora Media (NYSE:P) or worse Brightcove (Nasdaq:BCOV). They are getting slaughtered, -36.81% today.

    You are just noticing.

If Digitimes claimed that the next Apple product was going to be a pink iUnicorn that farts rainbows, all the tech rumor sites would report it including AppleInsider.

The plausibility of any given claim is completely irrelevant to tech rumor sites.

I wish there was one rumor site that would be bold and not be beholden to the almighty page views.

The 5.5" Mac Mini has purportedly been delayed due to unforeseen manufacturing issues in getting a 5.5" plastic bit for the bottom, according to unnamed sources from the far east who are familiar with Apple's plans.

Amazon wants to be known as a tech company, not a retailer. Can someone explain why other tech companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Intel,, Samsung, etc. can spend billions on R&D and capex but still generate profits and Amazon can't? I have a hard time believing Amazon's capex spending is larger than these other big tech companies so where's the profit? Amazon bulls claim their core services are profitable. If that was the case shouldn't we be seeing profits even with Amazon's so-called "investing in these business"?
