That must be why they never used it.

All mobile sites should die a slow, painful death.

Okay not all but 99% of them. They're terrible. They take away standard functionality. They don't allow you to zoom. They often employ ridiculous gesture control that ends up shifting you to an article that you don't want. Their ads are often taking up 30%+ of the screen. It's like they developed these "mobile" sites with a desktop browser in mind which is unbelievable.

Apple still does. What's your point?

What? Does your iPhone use a micro USB charger instead of a lightning connector?

Some countries in Europe require Apple to include an adapter. My country doesn't, so they sell it for €19

Apple doesn’t use MicroUSB on any of their products. They offer an adapter from their own port to it because the Europeans got all whiny. Other than that, there’s no evidence that they “support the international community in backing it”, because they don’t–they hate it.

I like the new look. Only one issue. If you add a shortcut to this site on the home screen, it works as a mobile app, as it is supposed to, by removing the Safari controls, but when you click on an article, it takes you back to mobile Safari, which is annoying.

It did that before and I was hoping the issue will be addressed with this redesign but unfortunately it was not.

Yep. I hate the mobile site, but the biggest annoyance is no control over text size. So many mobile sites act as if they were desktop sized.

Ahhh thanks, I see. I read awhile back that they were onboard with it as an environmental effort but then surprisingly dumped it. Maybe the article had the facts wrong.
