Never mind the software options to increase text size, etc. There are flip phones on the market in Japan right now with a 480x854 screen; are they a problem?

It is much easier to write on a bigger screen than a small one with your finger.  In asian language mode the usable writing area on the current iPhone is very small and occasionally fiddly.

Yes, the larger 5.5 will be proportionally more popular in Asia (well, china and japan anyway) than here for that reason.

Which is why it seems like a mistake. Apple did it for China at the expense of the West. Good for them, not so good for us.

So buy the 6 and not the 6+. The difference between the 5S and the 6 is a little bit of height. The 6 by itself is probably smaller than the 5S with otter box. It's barely taller than my 5 with a thin case.

I used to think the retina 4 was perfect. Now with my vision it's not just the Asians that appreciates a larger screen.

This demonstrates something that matters. Apple and Adobe share something in common. They often work hard to put the proper fit and finish on their products.

Both, however, use the open source Hunspell in their products and it has a woeful lack of finesse. In OS X apps that use Hunspell, I'm routinely left amazed by its utter inability to make spelling suggestions. About a third the time it hasn't a clue? Even a single missing letter or transposed pair of letters leaves it clueless.

Am I a particularly bad speller? Maybe, but when I post that same misspelled word into a Google search, I get back the correct spelling about 98% of the time.

If Apple won't invest the money to make Hunspell better, it ought to at least give us a 'check spelling with Google' option for words flagged as misspelled. I waste a lot of time each day because OS X's spell checking isn't even up to mid-1980s standards.

You've seen the 6 next to the 5S, right? It's height AND width. And you put your finger on it with the 4 ... we're comparing it to the 5, but I'm going from a 4 ... so it's really a big difference for what I'm used to and what I'd prefer out of a mobile device on the go ... it's a little thinner, but let's face it, all they did was add an antenna and a chip, and previous components have surely shrunk since the original 5. The Plus should be ridiculously spacious inside.

The 6 as the only offering with the latest technology is just not acceptable to me. Again I hope that is just part of their strategy to push the Watch and 6 for shareholders, and as it will take Apple Pay at least a year to roll out in any meaningful way, give them an opportunity to re-design the 4" format with the NFC antenna, in much the same way as they redesigned the 5c mid-product cycle, rather than just bump the 5 down. It also helps distinguish the price differences.

I agree with the failings of Apple's implementation of spellcheck, which is about the same as the Microsoft spellcheck in Word. And, I too, have found that Google will out-perform everything else. But don't complain about Apple until you see the new search at work... I think (hope) this will bring the ability of finding the right spelling up to par with Google.

I think the 6 and watch are being promoted to get millions of product into the hands of users so the Apple Pay has millions of users ASAP. There is some level of critical mass to get something new fully in use. I don't know what that number is, but Apple gets the kinds of numbers into the tens of millions in a month or less. Also, Apple Pay has 200 million potential users in place for on-line purchases with the iPhone 5, 5s and 5c, so don't think it will take "at least a year" to see ApplePay involved in an impressive number of sales events.

I think Apple should build NFC into a 4" iPhone, if that's possible, perhaps next year, when the iPhone 6 and 6+ move down to the next tier, Apple may introduce an iPhone "Classic", which will be a 4" iPhone with NFC. It seems kind of a waste to offer the 5s with Touch ID and no way to make a NFC purchase.
