At some point the industry need to welcome nanoFlowCell batteries, or some other new battery tech. It seems like there's a limit to the batteries they're currently using.
The Apple watch is probably running a (maybe not that) scaled down ios. I needs battery.
The next major innovation level for industrialized portable energy storage is going change everything. We could still be quite far off from that though.
Glad the Guinee Pigs are lining up to buy one - some even two. The rule has always been- Never buy a first gen Apple product- ever. You're asking for it. Name one first gen device that didn't get vastly improved in gen2?
It's better to make it it right than put out crap like Moto or Samsung and others wearable watch.. Poor early adopters get suck in and waste money. So, more power to Apple to make it right.
Glad the Guinee Pigs are lining up to buy one - some even two.

And gen 3 will be better than gen 2!
And when gen 2 comes out, there will be no less whining I bet.
It's always that way. Somebody somewhere will always have something to whine about.
As long as it lasts a full day, then this is not an issue. Those people who are impressed by the ?Watch will not be deterred by charging once a day.
What kind of a bum is going to sleep with their ?Watch on?
You take the watch off at night and you charge it. When you wake up, you're ready to go again. We're talking about a full color, touch display here on your wrist.
The gold models come with a charging stand I read, and ?'s charging solution seems to be well done.
How long will this charging routine take every night? Ten seconds?
Well, thank you for insulting me out of nowhere.
I'm a kind of bum that sleeps with watch on me. I'm short-sighted, and when I wake up in the middle of the night, the easiest way to check time is to look at watch on my wrist. Other way, I'd have to put my glasses on, or grab phone/alarm clock from night stand to check time. Or have alarm clock with large illuminated digits, which I fine uncomfortable to sleep next to. I prefer having watch on my wrist.
In addition, I travel a lot. Since I live in New Zealand, most of the world falls into overnight travel category. Fitting watch charging into that kind of scenario is just pain in the bum.
I like the idea of smart watch, but I will be looking at one when they get close to a week of runtime.
Apple still needs to solve this energy dilemma. A one day battery life for all these devices is just pathetic considering the technological advancements of the past 20 years.
I agree. Samsung, LG, and Motorola are impatiently awaiting Apple's solution to this energy dilemma. The future of Android wearables is counting on this.
The first iPhone, MacMini, AppleTV, and iPad all got depreciated quicker than later models.
Like I think the iPhone 6 is the first iPhone that I think does absolutely everything I need from a phone. The watch however does nothing I need, so I have no reason to get one.

And drama queens. Don't forget the drama queens.

Why is everyone who is disappointed convinced that disappointment is the only valid way to feel about this product?
We have some serious whackaloons on this site.
Go ahead! Name names! Don't be shy!![:)](http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies/1smile.gif)
This article states it is getting about the same on-time as the other smart watches, so it would appear they don't have the advantage you claim
Please show me where someone has tested the Apple Watch and confirmed it gets the same battery life as other smart watches.

Yeah, that sounds like complete BS. Nobody has done a comprehensive test of it.
The journalists got to see it for a limited time, and only got to mess with certain functions.
Why is everyone who is disappointed convinced that disappointment is the only valid way to feel about this product?
The people who like it, will simply buy one.
The people who are "disappointed" will each write no less than 50 posts about how disappointed they are.

Dear Tim cook,
Welcome to the fail boat.
Sincerely Samsung.
All of my other gadgets that need to be charged daily can be used while plugged in. This cannot. Definitely a deal breaker for me.
First Beats then this- Tim Cook has got to go.
Where is the Steve Jobs TV already?
What about putting a battery inside the strap?
That's what she said.

Why, exactly, is charging it each night a deal breaker?
Eight years of the best everything-but-a-phone I’ve ever had. Looking forward to eight more with an iPhone 6. iPhone 10, here I come.
