But don't worry: Consumer Reports can be counted on to troll the iPhone 6 reviews.

“Despite the iPhone 6 being the best device we’ve ever tested, its record breaking quality and satisfaction ratings mean we cannot recommend purchasing it at this time.”

I gave up on Consumer Reports 37 years ago, when they rated the new Dodge Omni / Plymouth Horizon "Unacceptable" because if you were barreling down the road at 50 mph with your hands off the wheel, then grabbed the wheel and jerked it 90 degrees and let go, the car would "oscillate and eventually run off the road". Seriously, this was their idea of a test!

Not long before that, they rated the TV that was the best by their own criteria "Unacceptable" because the knobs were too easy to swallow!

Why anybody pays any attention to their opinion on anything beats me.

Apple has done it again, blazing a new trail with bigger screens and 2 screen size options, woo hoo I'm so excited.

They'll complain the colors are too accurate.

This article is sooooo much better on http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/16/review-roundup-everyone-loves-the-iphone-6-and-6-plus With short video reviews from the usual suspects, you really ought to hop over to that site. Or read the one from The Verge

That might very well be better for all.

Not to rub it in your face, but Mossberg said he got 14-15 hours with his 6 rather than 8-10 with his 5s.

You've a 5s, you say? HAAAAHAAAAA! Don't worry; you've only got TWELVE MONTHS to wait. ????

Actually in 6 months AT&T usually let's me. I may depending on user reviews but the FaceTime camera is a missed opportunity to me. For a xl screen that size and that sharp it's a weak link.

The rounded edges mean you can't stand the device on its own on a table without an accessory, e.g. while showing a video clip: you either have to hold it, or need a stand of some sorts. iPhone 4 through 5s were able to stand on their own, either vertically or horizontally.

I'll take the bait. This has never been useful or worked as well as you lead on. They were difficult to stand up this way, impossible with most cases, and it did not make for a good viewing angle even when you got it to stand.

I'll trade all of that noise for a phone that's comfortable to hold.

From your post history it's clear you're just looking for something to nitpick.

After complaining that iPhones are "small" for almost 2 years and Phablets are stealing away market share, now suddenly iPhones are too big !

I win or you lose. Now decide.

I use my phone one-handed about 75% of the time... Having not held and tested the new iPhone 6, I can't say that the larger size is going to be noticeable. However, the move from a 3.5" to a 4" display was (and still is) noticeable. Although, I will say the addition of the "swipe from left" to go back in iOS 7 helped in usability, as the that top-left most button is the hardest to reach, so maybe the new "Reachability" feature in iOS 8 will further help in that regard?

My contract doesn't end until June anyway, I may just wait and hope Apple decides to bring back the smaller screen size next year. Although I personally think that from this point on (after the retirement of the 5S model), Apple will reserve the smaller screen for the "C" models, which, coincidentally, was not updated? What could be the reason for that?

1. Apple decided to not continue developing the "C" model

2. They decided to have it on a two year upgrade cycle

3. They moved it to a Spring upgrade cycle

Personally, I think it's number 3. They'll drop the iPhone 5S in the Spring and release a 5CS to replace it. This will get those who want "high style" to move up to the iPhone 6. Why do this then and not now? Still a lot of 5S in the channel to get rid of, plus it's available NOW while demand for iPhone 6 has pushed it's availability back a month or so - they need to have something to sell to customers who want to walk out with something in their hands.

Gut feeling... Apple has strayed from their normal upgrade path for the passed two years now, so it's really a bit unpredictable what they're planning.

And Microsoft fanboy Ed Bott thinks all the reviews are bogus implying Apple only gave review units to outlets they knew would give the phones a favorable review. Hmm...I don't remember the Verge or Engadget or Molly Wood from the NY Times being in Apple's pocket. And even though the Verge scored the 6 a 9/10 their review wasn't gushing and in some ways was kind of "meh".

Easy solutions.  Keep your smaller phone and buy the 6+.  I'm keeping my 5S.  Changing the SIM takes about 5 seconds.

When I need a small phone for the day I'll pop the SIM out of my 6+and plop it into my 5S.  So basically I have the ultimate phone now.  I can also use the 5S as a iPod when I go running or do outdoor work.  Much better than selling my 5S for $250.
I'm eligible for a new phone in January. But I might sit this one out and get the Watch. There are rumors of display yield issues so perhaps that's the biggest reason why the 6 has an inferior display? Maybe next year the 6s will catch up to its ugly sibling in terms of display and camera quality.

No I'm just weighing the advantages and disadvantages- not buying blindly. Glad I'm on the S cycle actually.

Speaking of iOS 8, where is it already? Been trying to update since midnight Pacific Coast Time. Just tried again and it's telling me I'm up to date with iOS7.

They'll probably roll it out by region to take some of the stress off their servers....
