My website: http://www.magle.dk is hosted on an Xserve at a company called Avalonia. They are 100% mac based which gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling

(Besides their service is also top-notch and the price reasonable)

Everything in Denmark is still more expensive even they are "reasonable"

Oh...just a few update regarding the hosting thing on my side.

I use two companies for my sites. Pair Network and NTCHosting

As I said before NTCHosting is very fast on hosting sites (like at least 138KB). Site hosting is also pretty stable. HOWEVER, the email is another story. The email goes down quite a lot. But since I only use this account to host my site it isn't a real huge issue to me.

The other company I use is PairNetwork. Roughly the same price as the one I pay to NTC....but I get much smaller storage and the speed isn't very fast (like 80KB max) compare to NTC. However, its email service is excellent. I have had my email account with this company since 1999 and I have had only two downtimes (and it was when they are moving their equipments to other facilities). I only host some small sites with this company

So all in all.....if you are looking for only one company to provide you both good web hosting and email these two aren't your choice.

If it's small time (as in, not Wal-Mart or Slashdot) and you're broadband, just serve it on your own computer using "web sharing". If you have a dynamic ip, go to dyndns .

    Try Free!

http://1and1.com is offering free full service hosting for 3 years... for free. No credit card needed, only a valid phone number and email address.

Its 500mb of space, with full access to logs, scripting, and even mySql database.

You can point multiple domain names to the account, for no extra charge.

There are no catches and the deal is legit(I am using it and their services are really good)

Hurry though, as the deal is only offered through the middle of January.

    Just a bit of followup

NTCHosting has been sucking balls since summer and they are just getting worse time after time....in pretty much everything.

Therefore. I recommend NOT to go for them.

I have moved everything (including the AICommunity) back to Pair Network.

Well... they are in fact, a very large hosting company.. that has been operating for some time now, in the commercial/business sector... they are just expanding into consumer/personal web hosting.

Besides, I gave them one of my hotmail accounts, and the phone number I used was my work number, so no worries here.

Seriously, you've really got nothing to lose with them, and you cant beat the deal.

And yes, their service seems to be very fast, and very reliable.(Ive had no problems whatsoever)

i use doteasy.com. free web hosting for life without banners, so long as you need just a regular web site without all the bells & whistles. they have only been down once in four years during an overnight upgrade of services.

that having been said, i have been looking to upgrade to their "pro" list of features, but i have to admit i do NOT like the fact that they have no way to reach them by telephone. they say they're looking at a pay-per-call system for support in the new year, but i mean, i want to know they at least HAVE a phone. this concerns me.

No no I know they are respectable and that there aren't any tricks or anything involved. The reason I ask is because that is important but normally costs you $25 or so even on cheap plans. I didn't know if you did their free hosting if in fact because they are so big they would let you freely register your own .com or whatever you choose. I highly doubt it but thought I'd ask just in the hopes they would.

Not sure what you are asking, I guess...

They allow you to point your existing domain name to their servers for no extra charge. They also allow you to point several names to different directories on the same account.. (which is mondo cool, if you have a bunch of names)

Also, their domain name registration is only 5 bucks.. thats pretty cheap, if you want to get a domain name through them.. but otherwise, yes.. you can use any names that you already have, and it works for their email accounts as well.. so for free, you get hosting, and email with your own domain name... for three years.

Its the best deal that I have found anywhere, and the servers are linux clusters that sit on a very fast pipe.

Its well worth checking out, if you need space, or just to get in case you might need space down the road.

So i figured, what the hell - I'll give it a shot. Their form refuses to except my address, or any address for that matter. Oh well I guess there is a catch - you can't sign up.

I'll express another vote of confidence in Pair Networks. I've used them since I got my first domain name in 1997 and am still happy with them. Their cheapest service is something like $6/month ($5 for hosting and $1 for virtual domain). But price isn't everything. Pair's service is great, and they've been very reliable for the seven (7!) years I've been with them.
