There's an article on Engadget saying Apple has adjusted the screen size in the marketing video:

    http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/01/apple-watch-has-a-smaller-screen-in-tweaked-video/

This highlighted something else that is unusual vs other Apple products. If you look at where the screen corners are vs the rounded edges, they usually don't let them get that close together because they don't sit well together. It creates a distracting contrast. With the original iPod, they rounded the edges of the screen:

The Shuffle with the display let them sit a bit closer and you can see the effect:

It makes it look like the black bezel is bulging because of the distance to the corner. The reason it's not so apparent on the Watch is most of the demos on the OLED display don't fill the display. One benefit of OLED is not being able to see any pixels when they are turned off unlike LCD. If they wanted to round off the corners to help them blend in better, they could do this with software and just have the OS always round off the corners.

I assume they haven't sent the watches to batch manufacturing yet but I wonder why they make so many for the demo runs. They needed FCC approval but that only seems to take about 30 days so why wait until 2015? They have a note on the Watch site saying that the features might change.

So many things don't add up. It was in development for 3 years and yet the guy they got to lead the software effort was Kevin Lynch not Craig Federighi who they only hired in March last year:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-19/apple-hires-adobe-executive-kevin-lynch-as-vice-president.html

Kevin Lynch's presentation came across strange because he referred to Apple as 'we' when talking about the innovation of the iPhone and he's only been there about a year. I know he's acting as a rep but it still sounds odd. He's also the guy who defended Flash at Adobe, it says here he even said the platform would die without it:

Why Lynch and not Federighi and why hire him so late? Why delay until 2015 when they have so many units already, are they planning on changing it? The software clearly isn't ready, there's another video here showing the zoom using the crown at 0:23, it's glitchy:

but then why launch it now and not 2015? FCC approval would take 30 days, perhaps it was to try and build interest using the fashion events. It would also be interesting to find out who first said their next product would be a watch - was it Tim because of his love of fitness, was it Ive because of his interest in materials?

The issue with zoom, if there is one, could be a result of the way crown data are captured and depend on the sensing mechanism (analogue capture, digitised later or digital capture). This issue would be well understood and quickly resolved.

I cannot believe that the biggest feature of the Watch will be either capturing heart rate or ApplePay. I have a nagging feeling that the delay, if not simply a production/materials-component availability/software issue, has something to do with spectrometry. The 4 windows on the bottom to me scream something more than just heart rate. I understand what is said about the way heart rate is captured, using two wavelengths but I feel that there is something more to it (and involves exhaustive testing and certification). (Thinking Raman spectrometry.)
