It's sort of a joke, but it's sort of serious. I know people with old iPad too. They just feel like "Meh… No need for me to upgrade. This one works fine".
Concerns me a little.
i hear that from people who cant find a real use. However many justify the ipad so they dont need to own an iphone.
This is probably consisered a bad idea here, but I would love to see an iPad that is powerful enough to boot into iOS working with a hires monitor, accepting mouse input. This ofcourse would require developers to support some kind of desktop mode and multi touch is going to be an issue, but imagine the possibilities of working with it like your normal PC.... That would make me buy an iPad again.
Ofcourse this time done well (look at Windows 8 to learn from the mistakes :-)

Nothing personal, but that is a horrible idea! And I don't think that Apple would ever do it.
The iPad is a multi touch device, and there is apparently a tiny minority of people who just don't get that.
A mouse? That's about the last thing that I'd ever want to hook up to an iPad.
Just buy a Macbook Air if you want a traditional laptop, running OS X, and feel free to use a mouse or a trackpad or whatever you like.
Windows 8 tablets are complete crap! It is a flawed concept! Convertibles are stupid devices that don't make any sense! Apple making any kind of convertible would be a terrible and tragic mistake. Why should Apple emulate failure? What's next? Should Apple start selling Airships, because the Hindenburg was such a success?
There is really no pressing need to upgrade if you have an iPad 2 or later because it is still good enough.
It is also more of a consumption device meaning as long as it can handle content, users wont feel a need to upgrade.
Lastly it is also not a phone, meaning the standard upgrade cycle of 1 to 2 years don't apply. It is more in line with a computer which is about 3 years.
As Raffi said, “Gold is best!” ref: Conan. While it might not bolster sales much, it will tempt those with plenty of disposable income and a weakness for shiny things into upgrading from their non-Gold iPads.
While this color is Non-news to us tech-heads, the general public and the news media will lap this news up enough to make Windows 10 announcements look like an addendum to a city council meeting. Why? Because to the general public: if you can’t see a difference easily, there isn’t one. This “huge” departure will even get Reality show fans’ attention. If true, then I’ll be waiting for the first “I got scammed by someone who sold me a fake Gold iPad that turned out to be a Krylon painted generic Android tablet!”
The gold iP 5 is popular and looks very nice indeed so why not for iPads? They could do same or similar as an option for the next MB Airs (the fabled 12" model).

^^^^That and the post you quoted goes against the common knowledge that Apple purposely builds their products for planned obsolescence.
Concerns me that this basic plan to profitability isn't working and Apple screwed up again!
Tim Cook definitely needs to be fired now... no wait.. he shouldn't even be allowed to re-entire the US from his trip to Paris... and have his passport confiscated at the border and delivered to the EU authorities and tried as a Tax Criminal!
Only important to the Chinese I guess. But the fingerprint reader is long overdue.
Its not overdue. Apple spent $400 million on Authen-tec. Plus god knows how much R&D of their own. They needed a year of iPhone 5s sales to subsidize the cost of Touch ID.
It is arriving right on time with iPads this year.

That is the complete opposite of what an iPad is.......so......gonna have to go with......No.
if they come out with the 16, 64, and 128 gb versions like with the iPhone, they will likely boost sales and average selling price. lots of people will go for the 64gb and 128gb options at their new price points.
However, the iPad currently has 4 price points: 16, 32, 64, and 128.
If they did away with the 32 here like they did with iPhone, they would go down to 3 price points, and the top tier expensive model would get cheaper. That's not what happened with iPhone.
So one has to speculate if its remotely possible to see 16, 64, 128 and 256 options at the current price points. I'm going to say NO, not for 2014....but it is worth the speculation.

I doubt you would use it as a customer to authorise a transaction (although I'm sure some would) due to the size
Size doesn't seem to matter to some
You think the next iPads will have ?Pay? My guess is they won't, like like they don't have PassBook.

I think that they'll maybe have ?Pay for online payments and such, but not in store via NFC.
That is just my guess.
Man I, to my constant amazement, saw a lot of people taking photos in NYC with their iPads.
I've heard a lot of people say they like it because they can easily see what is in the frame.
I live in a tourist destination and I'm always surprised to see how many iPads being used as cameras.
Now if it has 1.5 or 2gb of ram (or however much is needed for safari tabs)- I'm in.

Don't blend the old with the new.

(Do I really need to do this?) /s
Complete nonsense.
It’s not 2010 anymore. That lie won’t fly.
Only important to the Chinese I guess. But the fingerprint reader is long overdue.

My guess is they absolutely WILL have ApplePay.....that does not mean they will have NFC.
ApplePay is equally useful for every transaction you make ON the device....iTunes, Online Shopping and In-App purchases.
