As an alleged non-profit, how can the NFL engage in any exclusive, compensated deals?
They aren't an "alleged non-profit" they are a legally recognized not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonprofit_organization: "While not-for-profit organizations are permitted to generate surplus revenues, they must be retained by the organization for its self-preservation, expansion, or plans. ... Designation as a nonprofit does not mean that the organization does not intend to make a profit, but rather that the organization has no owners and that the funds realized in the operation of the organization will not be used to benefit any owners. The extent to which an NPO can generate surplus revenues may be constrained or use of surplus revenues may be restricted."
Well, it's allegedly Beats, not Apple that infringed. And I'm not saying they did. But Bose should have the right to have it considered in court without Apple resorting to this kind of tactic (which is still just a rumour).
There is no more Beats as an entity that can be sued. It's Apple being sued. It would be absurd if a company (outside of a regulated monopoly or essential utility) couldn't refuse to do business with someone who takes them to court (or is even just a competitor).
At least this is one situation where no one can assert (with a straight face) that "Apple never would have done this is SJ were still around."
I think everyone can agree that Bose & Beats are no where near the best headphone makers out there. But I've always thought of them as the (air quotes) "Starbucks" of audio gear. Not the greatest, but certainly good enough for the average Joe and step above whatever mass market brand they are currently listening to.
I went into my local Apple store to check out the iPhone 6 and was surprised that all iOS devices and iPods were connected to Bose headphones. Apple was treating Bose good.
If Bose is replaced by Beats at the demo units then Apple really needs to improve the build quality of Beats' flimsy headphones otherwise we'll have their headphones falling to pieces in front of potential customers.
I know that there are a lot of people out there that for one reason or another really like Beats headphones. Maybe it's because Apple bought them? I don't know, but I do know that if you go to any reliable audiophile magazine and read their critique of them, they almost universally dislike them. There are any number of reasons for their poor critiques. I don't have time to list them here, but one of them was the poor bass response. I have a had many different headphones over the years, and now I use Bose QC15's. Of course they aren't the best in the world by any means, but it's what I could afford in the price point.
Both brands are overpriced, the difference that Beats has improved and will continue to improve. Bose is like Monster, people buy them even though they're complete crap.
I bought Bose for comfort not sound. Admittedly Beats has a better sound but Bose in ear comfort is far and away the best I have ever experienced in a headphone.
Please quit dragging the NFL sponsorship deal angle into this story. Total BS. If the player was wearing ANY brand other than Bose he'd be fined just the same amount for his unprofessional behavior. If anything it's been nothing but free advertising for Beats. If Apple quits carrying Bose products in their stores it's completely justified based on the lawsuit. Bose must have done the math and figured they could afford to alienate Apple with this lawsuit. Let's see what the market tells them.

Uh… no. This has absolutely everything to do with the sponsorship deal. It explicitly says you can’t wear anything but Bose. Try reading.

If this story is correct and accurate I could agree with Apple removing Bose products from its' own stores. Bose is suing Apple so why should Apple display, promote and sell Bose products? Selling Bose products would in affect be helping Bose to finance its' lawsuit against Apple.
I understand the whole NFL/Official Sponsor situation. But there's a difference between what's going on on-field and off-field.
Regarding Bose vs Beats... I don't have direct experience with either to make a claim as to quality of sound of their product (other than back in the 80s some friends had the Bose Box stereo thing, and back then I thought it sucked. Was just LOUD but quality of sound was meh. Used to hate it when you stopped playing a tape and it switched to radio and the volume jumped who knows how many decibels).
From what I hear (word of mouth), neither brand makes good quality, good sounding headphones. Beats is bass heavy due to the Rap/Hip-Hop skewed market, so of course they're tuned to be bass heavy. Although the new Solo2 headphones are supposed to be more balanced. IDK.
FWIW... I work in the music industry (software production and distribution). Sennheisers tend to be the headphones of choice for professionals and audiophiles.
But there are SOOOOO many choices within brands as well as among brands with such a wide range of pricing, specs, style, intended use, etc. it can get overwhelming to pick and choose what's right for you and your own ears.
Because the only place you can buy BOSE products is an Apple store.
Why do they sell socks next to shoes?
beer next to pizza?
Lube next to condoms;-)
Because the customer is already in prime buying mood;-)
if you walk in wanting to buy a phone and headphone pair (impulse shopping), try a couple headphones on while the apple genius syncs your phone, and walk out with a slightly deflated credit card and a pair of Beats cans with your 6+,
Both brands are overpriced, the difference that Beats has improved and will continue to improve. Bose is like Monster, people buy them even though they're complete crap.
You do realize that Monster was Beats' manufacturing partner until 2012, right.
As I predicted this $3B deal Apple will come to regret.
Where the **** is the shred of evidence that Apple is anywhere near "regretting" this deal? Oh wait, you predicted that, so feel free to twist reality to match that moronic prediction, like the shitty little troll you are.
I notice after your drive-by trolling n the Ive thread, you never bothered to acknowledge the dozens of posters who wasted their time meticulously explained the meaning of the quote to you. Disgusting. You're like a bot that can't make an honest or thought out post to save your life. Absolutely despicable.

Apple, you are PATHETIC! Bose products are not just better, but much better.

I own the Bose SoundLink mini Bluetooth speaker and it's the best $199 I've spent on a product.
That's not saying much.
Logitech Boom FTW

Nothing personal, this is just business.
Bose products are readily available elsewhere.
Non-event.
That's not saying much.

Harman Kardon Onyx Studio FTW

Bose gave free headphones to every member of the Jaguars this morning, and presumably the other teams as well:
Do they really believe that will remove the fat old bald guy stank from their products?
