Newly leaked parts purportedly show next-generation iPad with Touch ID fingerprint sensor
With only days to go before Apple's Oct. 16 event, new photos out of East Asia claim to show components bound for a next-generation iPad, including a logic board, Touch ID hardware and cover glass with incorporated digitizer.

Included among the supposedly leaked parts, posted to Taiwanese website Apple.club.tw on Saturday, is a Touch ID fingerprint reader sporting a gold capacitive ring, hinting at a new iPhone-inspired color option previously rumored in a report from last month.
The length of the flex cable attached to the scanning module suggests the part is bound for something larger than Apple's iPhone lineup, though it is not clear whether that device is a new iPad Air or next-generation iPad mini with Retina display. Many expect Apple to update both tablet sizes with Touch ID capabilities, bringing the products in line with current iPhone models.

Another photo shows what is claimed to be an iPad logic board complete with what looks like an "A8X" chip and micro-SIM card reader. The overall layout is consistent with the logic board found in Apple's current iPad.

Finally, a screen cover looks to be from a 9.7-inch device. Of note, a capacitive touchscreen layer backs the cover, which could mean Apple's next iPad will not feature a laminated screen.
Bonding a device's display structure with its cover glass minimizes reflections and offers deeper colors as evidenced by the iPhone lineup. Aside from iPhone, Apple has employed screen lamination techniques with the most recent iMacs, but the process is more difficult -- and costly -- when applied to touchscreen devices.

Apple is widely expected to launch new iPad models at a special event on Oct. 16. Also anticipated are announcements on the public release of OS X Yosemite and iOS 8.1, expected to feature Apple Pay. Recent rumors claim a refreshed 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina display will also debut.

I don't think there have been any leaks of a bigger screen, so it looks as though it won't happen until next year.
I weep.
Could just mean production on the 12" iPad hasnt started yet, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Pretty unlikely, though; Apple like to ship either on the day of announcement or a week later, generally.
We didn’t see any 6 Plus leaks.
I thought there was the odd component.
Rear case and logic board, that was it.
Apple can announce and say "we're shipping in limited quantities next month", a la iPad Mini Retina.
I guess. I don't share your optimism.

There was also ZERO leaks of a bigger iPhone 5 screen too. People were still debating whether Apple was going to even release a 5.5" phone right until the keynote. It was a shock to most people that not only were they releasing it, but they were doing so at the same time. So that means nothing. iPad parts are much easier to keep in check than iPhone parts.
Honestly if Apple is working on a larger iPad I would love to see it include pen support. That's about the only thing Surface has going for it. I'd love to see Apple put a knife through it once and for all.
I think you mean stylus support. You don't want to be trying to use a ball point, a felt tip, or any other pen on the face of a tablet. So, the Surface promotes a stylus... you can use a stylus of your choice on an iPad without a problem...in fact some much better then what comes with the Surface are available if you really feel that it's necessary. I've never felt I needed a stylus with my iPad, but I'd really love some direction keys on the built-in keyboard.
Personally, I'd love multiwindow support. I miss that feature from my Surface 2. There are a number of things I do that need two windows open at once.
There's 3rd party stylus on the market for ipads.
Not the same. The iPad needs a digitizer to have the same features of the Surface, Galaxy Note, and other touch devices on the market.

You mean it needs a digitiser for lower sales?
Hear, hear for analogue!
The Surface is doing that just fine.
No. http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/6/6921769/photoshop-illustrator-touch-features-adobe-microsoft-partnership
I don't want Microsoft and Adobe to get too cozy. People can ignore/make fun of Surface all they want but Microsoft isn't pulling the plug on it anytime soon. Certainly not as long as iPad sales are flat to negative. If the new iPad is just iPad Air with A8 and Touch ID I don't see the sales trend changing much. On the last earnings call Tim Cook said Apple had "interesting" things planned for iPad. One would assume he didn't mean just a slightly improved iPad Air.
