As far as that goes, refurbished first-gen iPad Mini's and Mac Mini's have been in short supply lately, which is sometimes a sign of a potential update.

I'd say that is almost certain given Apple's push for 4K video editing. Lucky you, I bought mine for my nMP six months too soon ... grrrr. I wonder what the trade in would be ... :\

    Things we know:

    - The current iPad was renamed the iPad Air. If they are being consistent with the Mac, that makes room for a bigger iPad Pro.

    - The new iPad has an A8X. In the past, X chips have been associated with more graphics power

    - The new iPad has 2GB RAM

    - There is an issue manufacturing the screen. The article says it is the anti-reflective coating but that sounds like a small thing. A more likely explanation is that it's a bigger screen and that's what's slowing them down.

So maybe on Thurs we will not see a new iPad Air, but rather an iPad Pro. And there have been rumors about a bigger iPad for some time anyway.

It doesn't make sense for them to upgrade me to a 4K (or 5K) display at the old $999 price.  I am expecting that they will have to Cinema displays, one based on the current iMac screen and a new 5K one.  I think I am just going to get the updated iMac screen one; not the one that is likely to be listed at $2,500!

Can't wait to see what I end up getting.

I hope so. I think the iPad Pro, even if it isn't in 'short' supply, will be hard to come by simply due to demand for a while. Lot of people I know with Air's and MBA's willing to sell their current devices for the 12.9" iPad.

    - Retina HD screen (going along with rumour of A8X).  The iPhone 6 screen, while same DPI as 5s, looks noticeably better.

    - TouchID, with ?Pay for app and on-line transactions.  That secure shopping will be a long-term differentiator.

    - Thinner (hopefully lighter).

    - All those benefits of A8 (faster, more efficient), usual stuff like better camera (still baffles me the number of people I see using iPads as their camera - clearly really like that big viewfinder).

Not sure it would be enough to entice many iPad Air owners to upgrade (TouchID might), but should drive upgrades for all others.  I know I intend to sell my iPad Mini (A5 chip) & go for the new 9.7" iPad.  Perhaps we will see some new software/services which help to drive more iPad usage (education, business, pro-sumer).

My prediction is there is something missing...it has been way to long does not apply to iMac or iPad...I am betting it is Apple TV announcement.

It really think the tagline is just a joke in reference to the keynote/new products in September.

And even if it wasn't, AppleTV wouldn't headline an event. And, we would have heard a lot about it already.

It has been WAY too long since an Apple Cinema Display was updated (they don't even have USB 3.0)...but that wouldn't justify the tagline either.

Yeah I see most of those coming true....except the higher resolution display on iPad. I don't see that happening to the Air. I don't see the advantage of borking iPad apps, creating a dramatic difference between the Air and the Mini, and what of the iPad Pro? If that product does come to fruition in near future, are we gonna have a 4th iPad resolution out there?

the last point is still not a 'know' (I'll give you the middle two from leaked photos that don't appear retouched) just 'rumored from several sources,'

And the name is just a rose by any other name.

He didnt't say higher resoltion, he said Retina HD. That means photo aligned, dual domain pixels.

Still wont look as nice as the iPhone 6 if the display isnt laminated to the glass, but it will look better.

"too long" could apply to the Retina iMac if it does not refer to time, but to non-retina pixels being too physically long.

I'm hoping Apple surprises with unexpected graphics power prowess or some new screen technology. There's too much "iPad growth stagnating" verbiage online and hopefully Apple feels the need to be aggressive to reignite interest. The iPhone 6+ is going to replace iPads for some, not necessarily a good thing.

If it's just a little bit thinner and a little bit faster, the Apple haters will take to the web in droves to share new rumors of Apple's demise.

The iMac is pretty exciting. I hope it's priced aggressively.

Something else is in the mix. I haven't read anything online that makes me go AHA! regarding Apple's tagline, "It's been way too long." Even more intriguing is the fact that the logo is outlined in the original Apple logo colors.

Maybe they managed to keep secret something really cool and unexpected.

Oh, yeah. We were at a dinner the other night and the hosts had iPhone 6+s. Wow. Those things are huge. Certainly no need for an iPad mini or regular iPad for a lot of people if they have that huge phone. Looks great for reading.

Unfortunately, the 6+ not well suited for runners, although someone is bound to come up with an iPhone 6+ runner's carrier/backpack/thigh hugger holster deal-ee-bob.

I think the rose is what is causing the confusion. You have Ming-Chi Kuo saying the iPad Air 2 will be released but production will be delayed for screen reasons. Earlier in the week the WSJ said Apple was planning a 12.9" iPad but was delaying production to leave more screens available for the iPhone 6 plus. These sound like the same device being called two different names to me.

Also there is a new rumour on MR just now from Digitimes saying the A8X is specifically for a 12.9" iPad. I think they will release a bigger iPad on Thurs.

Rehash of previous rumors with nothing new, but Ming-chi gets his own article every time?

The author is obviously required to suck up to this Kuo guy or risk losing the deal they've arranged here.

It's needlessly disgusting behavior, but it would be doubly disgusting if not contractually required. Why slobber all over a so-so analyst?

Kuo is highly accurate for a rumor-spouting analyst. He has earned the privilege of getting his own article every time.

Or perhaps you're right. Maybe AppleInsider should just be publishing garbage analyst rumors since it generates more column-inches than thoughtfully considered editorial decisions that weigh long-term historical accuracy by a given source. As we all know, AppleInsider loyally worships the Almighty Pageview.

Consider an AppleInsider where all they would publish would be rumors from Munster, Wu, and DigiTimes, with a sprinkling of the more farcical predictions from BGR. What a fabulous Apple rumor blog that would be...

AppleTV may not be a headline event, but 'the home' may be.  And AppleTV (and/or the Airport boxes) are the key to integrating the home.

Homekit may be the key... moving into the 'Digital Hub' .... remember that 13 years ago...

    image

Yes, coupling your TV (big screen), your Mac/iphone/ipad via continuity/airplay/*Kit (complex applications), large inexpensive storage (Time Capsule, iCloud, seamless to your interface).

Burning disks... well, that's so turn of the century;-)   It's now 'sharing.'

Replace that Mac in the picture above with a AppleTV or TimeCapsule+AppleTV (or some new name:  AppleHome  SiriTheButler or whatever).

Apple TV has been a hobby way too long.   That's the too long about it.  Not its last refresh cycle.  And HomeKit puts a new spin on this.  I see TV manufacturers (like car manufacturers) seeing value in selling a Apple TV ready device that puts the TV (and AppleTV) at the center of the home, not as a dumb display peripheral.

Home, Health, Car, Work, Play, Education, Entertainment....  Other than cooking food ("AppleWave"[tm - me]) or procreation['AppleSeed' ;-)], what else does a human need? ;-)

Digital Hub... it's been too long...

But I'm not sayin', but jus sayin'....

yes, $399 is too expensive for a mini. We picked up a regular mini this summer at Best Buy for $199. That' was the magic price point. $299 for a retina mini seems pretty decent.

Of course, it doesn't matter if the retina is a fabulous tablet. $399 for 16 GB is a joke. Apple loves its $_99.00 price points for everything with $100 increments. All their products have to have the pricing paradigm and have a gross margin of about 50%.

Back in the day (20-30 years ago), gross margins were 50% on their Macs (MacSE/Classic/SE30 and so on) and we all know what that did for Apple. Someone (Microsoft and its hardware partners) came out with something good enough (the "PC") and the people running Apple thought they were too good to lower prices (the Mac SE we bought was on sale for $2500).

Hopefully, Google and its partners come out with rock solid and compelling Android tablets (I've bought four and all of them had serious problems crop up and they were returned). Sales and market share will put more pressure on Apple to ease up on their pricing scheme to try to extract as much money as possible from customers.

Apple has done a pretty good job with their MacBook pricing. Next need to bring the iPad prices down or at least increase the base memory (32 GB) and have better pricing points.

I have high hopes for the iPad; I already sold my iPad weeks ago.

I find the 6,400-by-3,600-pixel screen resolution rumor difficult to believe. This resolution is much higher than any other computer monitor I could find on the market. This resolution would require an amazing GPU.

If you are questioning AppleInsider's editorial decisions, you should be directing your attention to Gene Munster. Why he gets his own article every time is an embarrassingly poor judgment call on AppleInsider's part since Munster has amassed an extremely long record of inaccurate predictions.

As far as I can tell, AppleInsider should be publishing Munster's predictions indicating that the opposite of what Munster predicts should be considered a veritable rumor. Munster says Apple TV? Therefore the more accurate prediction should be NO APPLE TV.

NO ANALYST should be getting their back waxed at the expense of mildly credible journalism. What happens here is not journalism. They love to pretend, but it's often a parade of favors followed by tap-dancing to pay the bills.

I've never had a problem with paying the bills. The problem comes from the failure to disclose.

Why does the author choose to paint Kuo in a favorable light? It's an excellent question.
