I live in the SF bay area and sometimes I here those ads on the radio with that maniacal guy pushing all kinds of electronics for Fry's electronics. IF you have ever heard them you will know what I mean. Anyway they advertise Android tablets at quote "LOW LOW PRICES".  I imagine the advertising is quite effective. I used to go to Fry's a lot 20 years ago because on the bottom shelves I could pick up brown box devices that were 1/3 of the cost of the prettily packaged expensive stuff from the usual suspects higher up the shelves. Sadly Fry's has gone the route of boring glossy mainstream highly advertised packaging. They don't stock the interesting stuff any more. They even sell refrigerators now arghhhh.!!!!!

Not really. I'm on a Nexus 5, and know Android inside and out. I've had alot of weird, random issues with the software since I got it, and the phone is stock. I'm also on ART. It's not slow, but Android DOES start doing odd things after a while, requiring a reboot. Never experienced this with iOS.

Yeah, I do not claim that Android is as stable as iOS, but I have had to soft reset and reboot our iPads and iPhones every couple of months. There's no denying that there are more reboots with Android, but that's the tradeoff for the the integration and customization. Reboots are still pretty rare, but at least once/month for me.

That said, ART on my Nexus 4 bumped my Antutu benchmarks up from Galaxy S3 territory to Galaxy S4 territory. My son begged me to throw 5.0 dev preview on his Nexus 5, and it is really nice. Responsive, intuitive, and looks great.

I keep getting soft reboots on my iPhone 5 in iOS 8.1. Really annoying.

My wife is a holdout on her 5s. iOS 7 just works so well for her that she's not interested in the risk of upgrading. Pretty funny risk profile compared to our oldest son who wants to be on the bleeding edge of tech.

Hmm and yet android phones far outnumber iphones ... Apples to Oranges? iTards usually try that all day long.

"Hurr Durr... Lets compare 100 manufacturers to ONE."

Apple can't even keep up with its sales. Name another iPhoney manufacturer that has that problem?

You expect a single manufacturer to dominate worldwide phone sales? Apple at its current capacity could not provide more than it currently can make. Yet fandroids stupid standard for Apple is to take %50+ percent market share or their garbage.

Please! Don't make me pull out the survey that showed android users to be more stupid and desperate compared to iPhone users. Although your response alone needs no further validation.

THE KOREAN KNOCKOFF COMPANY IS SINKING!!! Hahahaaaaha!!!!

Sure, so how many "top 10"  or "top 100" apps are in 64bit mode today?   Hardly any I guess.   If 64-bit is so wonderful, where are all the 64-bit iOS apps?

That is probably one of the dumbest analogies I've read in ages.

As a Note 3 and iPhone 5 user, I find all these ignorant comments funny as hell.  The Note series is the only Android phone worth considering and it is a far more capable smart device than any iOS device and any other phone on the market.

For me, I'm annotating stuff all day long, signing documents, editing PDFs, marking up photos, and doing the occasional photo edits via Adobe's Photoshop Touch.  There is no smart phone that can do this, zip, nada.

With that said, comparing the two is like comparing an Ultrabook notebook with a Tablet.

I'm not crazy about the Note 4 or the iPhone 6. The Note 4's features aren't enough of an upgrade for me and same for the iPhone 6, plus it's the ugliest iPhone yet. The sides reminds me of the squashed creme in an Oreo cookie.  Bring back the iPhone 4's design, loved that one the most.

No reason to get a Note except for national pride at this point.

    1) Digitizer
    2) Larger display.
    3) Like/Require Android for whatever reaon
    4) Certain other HW features.

Those are just broad strokes. While Android isn't for me there are certainly reasons why people are buying it outside national pride (or Apple hate).

Probably all of the top 100 apps support 64-bit at this point. In just a few months Apple will be requiring all app submissions (which includes updates) to support 64-bit.

Not really.  Feature phone could connect to the web and could also run vendor supplied "apps" and even some downloadable "java me" apps or whatever they were called.  Those junk phones are more properly feature phone replacements that run Android, which also powers true smartphones.  Many of them can technically run apps, but practically, not really.  Apple is not in that market.

Then define what is a smartphone?
At what level does a feature phone becomes a smartphone?

Look at what Samsung calls "premium smart phones" and that would probably encompass the "real smart phone"

But, probably a few things like:

    • launch with and can be updated to the latest or relatively recent version of the OS

    • regularly updated OS

    • enough horse power to run common apps of the platform across genres (including entertainment/games)

I get the first two but the third, there isn't a game currently in the Google Play Store that the Note 4 can't play with at least 60FPS or more. Regardless of the comparison that was made on this board with the Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Qualcomm chip used is still one of the top 5 ARM CPU's currently being sold today.

I would think the Note 4 would be considered a smartphone (and by Samsung as a "premium smart phone."   The idea is all the white box Android devices selling for $50-$100 with dual core 1.0/1.2ghz ARM cpus and 512MB RAM or maybe 1GB RAM which cannot run didly squat, which come with Android 4.0 or 4.1, never get upgraded, and are feature phone replacements.  And Samsung has a lot of similar devices, especially in less developed regions like that too.

1GB alone is not a determining factor.

Have you looked at the Wacom pressure sensitive stylus for iPad? The new Fifty-Three Pencil is also pressure sensitive with their Paper app.

I have. The experience is pretty bad. The nib is still really fat compared to a 'proper' Wacom stylus, it's battery powered (WTF?), and because the pen tracking built in to the pen instead of the screen, it depends on each app developer to support it. Very few apps support pressure sensitivity, and even fewer have palm rejection. When the digitizer is built in to the screen, stylus support and palm rejection is universal system wide.
