foam = huge mess.

more suited to when people are wearing t-shirts than what you're looking at (rented tuxedos)

GIVE UP ON THE iTUNES VISUAL IDEA! YOU CAN'T RUN IT ON ONE SCREEN WITHOUT IT BOGGING DOWN, LET ALONE 3!\t

AND, pray tell, how are you going to add songs to your 'on the fly' playlist if the visuals are covering the screen? you can't.

so stop thinking about visuals and get the sound sorted out. it makes sense to get the sound and system worked out before you start working on oil projectors and foam machines and the rest.

I think junior means junior as in high school junior. I don't recall high school being called junior high.

likely will be 16/17 year olds. big night. surprised they gave it to a student

Or it could be junior high (or as others call it, Middle School).

I've never heard of a Middle School (Junior High) prom before. Back off about the iTunes shit. If anyone actually took the time to read before they posted, they would have read that that was just 1 idea. Good advice would help me much more than telling me what sucks

i have no idea how junior high dances are but this sounds funny.. Ok you're using your computer but for crying out loud, you're gonna use itunes hahahah at least have some beatmatching, this is very sad and super ghetto.

I personally would not even use a computer, especially an imac, surely you would be better with 2 CD decks, and a good selection of CDS (which you could burn with i-tunes, and use cross-fade etc...), then you would have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Visuals could be projected, as someone mentioned, and if you had a couple of projectors, it would look wicked.

Do you not fear the imac crashing? imacs crash a hell of a lot, and sometimes for the silliest reasons...

Once a month I help mates organize a club night in town, the setup is all there, and it's not bad, (twin CD mixers, and some massive speakers), both could be rented...

I am NOT a DJ, I just burn music onto CD, and change the CDs every now and then...

my advice is to think around the imac.

My iMac has never crashed. And it is also obvious to me that "dvd" didn't bother to even read the post above his. If you don't read the thread, your posts are going to sound stupid. Yes I do have access to however many projectors I want. But I think I'm going to go with the more conventional method and ditch the iMac and do 2 CD players.

Could I just thank everyone for one of the most entertaining threads I've read in a long time.

Good luck with the gig G4.

The only access to imacs I have is a college network of them, and they're ridiculous, crashing all the time, but this might be because they're on a network, or because students don't treat them well...

It's a good idea to stick to the 2 CD players, you'll have less to worry about, and it should be a good night.

I respect you for asking for advice at least a week prior to the event! My biggest mistakes are due to leaving things to the last minute.

from what it looks like, G4Dude has no idea how to dj-dj... he just wants to play mp3s.

Therefore, traditional equipment (even cd-decks) are out of his league.

I suspect a bit of 'show-off-my-new-iMac' here... which is just stupid.

Computers are tools, not a measure of your worth. People will be too concerned with the events of the prom to say 'ooh that's a pretty computer'.

This being said, BayTex Party! 3.0 is good dj software.

    <a href="http://www.baytex.net"; target="_blank">www.baytex.net Be forewarned, it's $99.

However, it basically emulates a set of decks pretty nicely... though I can't get myself accustomed to it- it takes 2 hands to mix, in my opinion. And nothing, nothing comes close to the feel of a nice 1200.

    *sigh*

So I guess that means it's high school... in other words you're screwed and will be the laughing stock of the school

we have a student DJ do our dances but he's actually a DJ, you know with equipment and a job. For the prom we don't have that. Why would a student want to spend his prom playing the music anyways. have fun. you shouldn't have to work your own prom
