Tim is a very honorable person and has been an outstanding leader at Apple, taking the position under extremely difficult circumstances. But that said, choosing him as 'Person of the Year' with all the brushfires going on in the world right now would have been a tone deaf decision.
I really like their choice. Other illnesses kill far more people, but the hysteria and fear factor associated with the ebola outbreak, together with the health workers selfless sacrifice make them laudable.
I'm really confused how this was deemed important enough. It was inflated by the media to distract people for a few months, and now it's a non-issue again.
Not to mention endless media stoked "needless panic" that (hmmmm) completely stopped the day after the election.
Any data to back this up? The media are basically click-whores. If there were any infected people within 1000 miles of the US they would be back to scare mongering.
But suppose your media conspiracy is true. What's the theory behind it? Who did it help to get people anxious about disease before the election? Was it a (very subtle) way to suppress the minority vote somehow? Or was it a failed attempt to get people to support the Democrat's healthcare agenda?
This was a poor decision and many of those ebola doctors returning to the US can not be trusted, as some have been caught lying and exposing the public to the deadly disease. If somebody wishes to travel to Africa to help, then that's fine, go right ahead, but don't go importing the disease and helping to spread it worldwide by returning to the US, and not following common sense precautions. And these people are supposed to be medical personel, yet some of them act no different than rats carrying bubonic plague.
There should be a mandatory quarantine for all of them who return to the US, no ifs, ands or buts about it. If they do not agree, then they should not be allowed to set foot back in the country. Also, all border security should obviously be tightened, not opened up, like some people wish. There are enough questionable and illegal people entering the US. Who knows what sicknesses, diseases and viruses these people carry.
As I stated a few days ago though, I am not surprised that Tim Cook did not win. This is Time magazine that we are talking about here.

It was a created media feeding frenzy issue in America where Ebola was never going to be a threat unless it had a sizable spontaneous mutation, but a huge and real issue in poor African countries with almost no health infrastructure and many other variables making it difficult to get a handle on the outbreak.
And some of these countries have lost many key people of the few they did have... ...with health, geopolitical, economic and other major consequences that will effect them for years.
EBola hasn't been conquered yet but the Democratic Party has - the American voter should have won as Republicans have been tsunamied into Congress releasing the nation's chokehold.

Take this crap elsewhere -- e.g., PoliticalInsider.
Agreed. But AI characterizing this as Cook being "spurned" is absurd. Oftentimes the person of the year is news-making tyrant (e.g., Hitler and Stalin (twice)). It's not a popularity contest.

Good choice.
Bravo, brave Ebola-fighters!
It wouldn't have been for ?Watch, it would have been for coming out. But that was hardly the most newsworthy or important thingthat happened in 2014.

Ok, you go clean up the mess.

Dumb. As bad as when the person of the year was "you."

Doh! I never considered they would have multiple magazine covers to help push more copies.
Other magazines have done this before.
Probably Playboy, maybe the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Not a new concept in periodical publishing.
Happens every month in the Comics/graphic novel worlds, where "created collectibles" to increase sales is a time-honored tradition...

I am sure Tim Cook feels that the Ebola fighters deserve it more.
Self-righteous - surely you jest.
I guess you must have missed this one: http://www.people.com/article/ebola-nurse-breaks-quarantine-maine

Agreed. Frankly it would have been a PR nightmare for Apple if Time had selected Cook (while mentioning all the other runners-up).
Dumb. As bad as when the person of the year was "you."
You're just jealous that they selected me instead of you. Oh wait.

Yeah, give this to people involved in one of the biggest overblown "news" stories of the year. Sheesh.
"Time" is not worth the pulp it's printed on.
