Where the freak are the physical buttons? IMO -Touch screens in cars are a horrible idea. Chrysler / VW have it better... they use physical buttons for basic functions.

Agreed, used it in rentals. Can figure out whats going on and sync blue tooth fairly easily.

I agree. The more basic tasks can be performed via touch without ever looking away from the road, the better. Sometimes a fraction of a second is enough to contribute to a collision.

no, because the android wear concept was devised after apple's wearable had already started to rumor.

but android itself is a copy.

I recently rented Ford cars with the Sync system in them and was absolutely floored by how incredibly awful the system is. While it supports bluetooth audio streaming, pairing the phone is buried several levels down a poorly named hierarchy -- even worse, so is the input selector. It's mind boggling they shipped such a bad system, and even worse that Ford took delivery of it. It's pure garbage. I can't imagine Blackberry being able to do anywhere near as bad even if they tried.

Using your logic, before Nokia released the 7710 Apples phones were non existent, after the 7710 they changed that to touch screen phones, who is copying who?

Porsche's interface is a mess, despite being it a premium brand. It's like buying a macbook pro with a Vista operating system.

It runs in the family as Volkswagen's interface is hopeless as well.

I love Porsche, but their "button for every function" philosophy is completely retarded. It just makes their interiors look like a cluttered mess. It doesn't surprise me that their software interface is equally harebrained.

This has nothing to do with having the monitor used in a car as an "open" platform". It's about establishing a standard device. The TV and NFC terminal are standard devices that anyone can develope for. But the software in an Apple TV (that uses a standard TV) and ApplePay (that uses a standard NFC terminal) are still proprietery to Apple and remains a close system. (Just like how Android is a close system, once you install anything Google into it.) It makes perfect sense that the monitor in a car should be no different than the standard monitor you connect (using VGA or DVI) to a computer. It shouldn't matter whether you're using a computer loaded with Windows, OSX or Linux in order to use that monitor.

It always humors me when the hard core apple loyalists think that all others are novices and copy cats. Examples: copy/ paste has been there for decades. Drop down notifications had been there in Android since original launch, which apple introduced in iPhone 5. I can list list lot more. The issue is these are not rocket science innovation to say every one is copying. Learn to love together. Apple produces great products . Lollipop is an amazing Android OS.

You really have to forget touch for autos...it is imprecise and distracting to raise your arm up to a screen to try and press the right buttons when the car is bounding and lurching. BMW has it best with the iDrive Controller, Mercedes and Audi aren't as good but still work well.

Does anyone know if CarPlay supports structured/cursor access in addition to free touch and voice?

seems like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo here, would have been easier to just stap a sim-enaable tablet on the dash.

I've rented a couple of cars with SYNC and they were both the most un-intuitive crappy systems I have ever experienced
