Whoa. You have attendants in NJ? I don't remember the last time I saw anything other than a self-service gas station here in Texas. The last one remaining in my city closed down a couple of years ago.

In other news, it is reported that Heidi Fleiss wears an NFC Terminal pendant ...

    Touch ID? :D

Don't think I'm going to be spending and extra $.50-.75/gallon just for the thrill of using Apple Pay.

    C'mon Arco!

NJ is full service only. No self service.

LOL (I knew I could count on you)

Jon Stewart once reported that Heidi had gone into real estate:  "if you're interested you should just drive by and dicker ..."

I had no idea. I just researched it and found NJ and Oregon both prohibit self-service. I learn something new every day!

Do they (and Oregon) feel that it's too dangerous or is there some other reason for the law?

Can't wait for all gas companies to get on board with this. Especially would prefer if this could happen at the pump instead of having to go inside to pay.

I meant that such a joke could be the link (between better gay rights and NFC "at the pump"), not that anyone was making the joke :)

It's mandatory here in NJ and Oregon (except on military bases), legend has it that it's supposed to mean less in insurance for the station to pay and pass the savings to customers. The past few years have obliterated that theory since we're no longer one of the cheapest anymore. It's not all it's cracked up to be though, it's always faster when I find a careless attendant who won't care if I pump it myself instead of waiting on them. I do however enjoy the attendants that wash my windows and stuff for realizing that getting even a $1 tip/customer can turn that otherwise-meaningless position into a pretty decent living. Gives me hope in society on my worst days.

It's likely that bank ATMs will eventually utilize ApplePay.

Apple pay will only help if it works everywhere... And doesnt require a paper signature in some places like my grocery store.

    Probably a borderline-homophobic joke.

I don't think so. I think [@]zroger73[/@] is merely pointing out that Chevron is more progressive company, which appears to extend to both civil rights and technology adoption.

We all know why the Exxon Valdez captain wasn't on the bridge when it went aground...

    No it isn't.

I think it was an attempt at humor since the entire point of Apple Pay is to bypass all cash transactions. What else is an ATM good for?

    No it isn't.

I could see ?Pay being available because it means you can use it without your card present, yet still have a biometric and your 4-digit PIN for verification. If that saves you from going into the branch or makes transactions through the bank more common I can see it happening.

?Pay is suppose to be used in lieu of cash but sometimes you need cash, which is why we still use debit cards to get out cash from ATMs.

Deposits (checks and cash), check balances, transfer between accounts for that bank if you're using their ATM, getting recent transactions printed out, and buying sheets of stamps are available at my bank's ATMs.

True but if you have Apple Pay you also have an iPhone that has been doing all of these things for sometime.

May have nothing to do with Chevron being more progressive and everything to do with them having their headquarters in CA. CA is a very liberal state and CA will push their liberal agenda to any big company that wants to do business in the state. (NTTAWWT) Meanwhile Exxon-Mobile headquarters is in Texas.
