I don't think we've seen this much discussion about an apple product lately , iPhones you know what your getting but with this its a whole different animal
Trust me: It's a girl, albeit a skinny girl, but a girl none-the-less. The watch doesn't look too bad either.
No disagreement here. They even have some different display options and note they couldn't do the useful inductive charging, like ?Watch, because it affected the operation of the mechanical quartz watch.
What I like about Kairos is they were trying to bridge the gap between why people where watches and consumer electronics. I think they failed, but I think they failed in the most beautiful way possible. I don't see how it will ever turn a profit, even if it does ever ship, but I commend them for thinking about a solution in what I consider the correct way. As I've stated before, I don't find ?Watch very attractive, but I think it's on the right path and laying a solid foundation for the future of wrist-worn wearables.
I never really understood what oxymoron meant in the real world. Now I know.
It's a hybrid mechanical quartz smartwatch, now with more astrolabe, and less GPS, because a sextant wouldn't fit, and you still have to navigate through traffic.
Rest assured that he's not tarnishing the sterling general picture, at least the one I have of the national character. The exception proves the rule, and all that.
Your suggestion in another thread that he's a transplant is persuasive. His line that "God is an Englishman" and other such puffery sounds like "the lady doth protest too much" methinks. If he is a fake Brit, he's then likely to have a little stipend to sustain his trolling, and he's got a British editor to get the spelling and the vocabulary more or less right, but a little overdone, in my opinion.
As Holden Caulfield remarked ... You Sir, are a Gentleman and a Scholar ...
Some of the respondents to this article display a distinctly tribal attitude. It must be difficult to distinguish between those with a genuine concern and the 'Samsungers' and 'Googleistas' in disguise.

It's the right way to go mixing it with fashion. It helps show up their closest competitor - the Moto 360 shown is the most popular Android Wear watch:
I think the Android manufacturers are aiming more for men, which tends to be what they do. I wonder what the breakdown is for digital vs analog between men and women.
There's a couple of sites with some stats about watches:
Watches are more popular in the east so that may explain why they went with Vogue China first. It says 50% of searches for a watch are done on a mobile in Japan. That's one way Apple could push their own watch with Siri results.
The second site survey says over 3/4 of people own a watch but less than half the women who own them wear them. More than 3/4 are analog watches, just 16% digital.
"Finally we asked our respondents who owned watches how many of these had dead batteries. The answer? A startling 72%. This may help explain why they aren't being worn."
The battery life is going to be a crucial thing to get right with this.
This thread is hilarious! I have to admit my first impression on the article was "Wow. That looks great. I *really* want one of those. And the Apple Watch looks great too."
There are *huge* amounts of psychology involved in this kind of marketing. If you think about it, this is actually quite new to Apple. Yes, Jony has had to design beautiful products for some time, but this is a whole new level. iPhone had to look good, but it was not jewelry per se. Apple Watch pretty clearly is.
Very subtle things for sure. It is pictured on an fitness/athlete model on a magazine largely targeted to women (and I think a fitness focused publication?) For reasons I don't quite understand myself, I'm really not too sure about Apple's new marketing guru, Angie Ahrendts. She had a huge price tag, seems to be interested in fixing things that ain't broke, and it isn't clear what she brings to the table. But seeing a strategy like this in a picture, i'm starting to get it. (Yes, my testosterone poisoned brain needs to be fed a picture to understand things....) Face it gang: women have disposable income too. And IMHO, they have different priorities in life than men.
I'd sure like to see some stats on Apple's product appeal by gender. What percentage of those 75M iPhone 6's and 6+'s were bought by women? Think it is largely gender neutral?
Be kinda interested how many women actively follow AI. Sure would like to see a post from a female about this picture. Call me...curious.
That is a nicely composed shot that totally shows how the watch can be accessorized and coordinated with outfits. The white watch band coordinates with the white stripe on the shirt and the shorts. Fashion conscious people will love the ability to easily change bands to fit how they are dressing. The are tons of people who spend a lot of money on their clothes and accessories. FYI Burberry is a $2 billion company that had a lot of success and growth under Ahrendts. I think she is a good hire re the Watch and how it will be presented in the stores. Plus Jony is working closely with her on the store changes, so it's not like she is a loose cannon who is going to sink the stores as some have posited. I wonder if she has any input on things like this magazine cover?
I was reading today that the ?Watch may ship minus a lot of the health and fitness tracking features. If true rather surprising.
how can it be "minus" if those features were never announced or advertised? every product in every market goes thru many changes from the drawing board to real life. what features is your favorite gaming console "missing"?
as usual, gruber nails it -- the rumors were wrong. not the product.
Biggest question I keep asking myself, is will I want to be wearing this watch 10 years from now? Might be a bit outdated, firmware, software, and stylewise by then. Might not make a difference for the $300 watches, but sure does with their luxury watches. I've been wearing the same Rolex Submariner for the last 30 years. Guess I am old fashioned.
for the sort of people that can afford a $4,000 smartwatch, they wont care -- theyll have traded it in for a newer model. it's a status symbol, not something practical. same as the Vertu "luxury smartphone" customers.

I do wonder if Apple might be planning an upgrade feature for the internals of the watches? Say in a couple of years they have a new computer module. You could bring the watch to a store and they swap in the new guts, for a not so nominal fee. Poof, new watch that continues to live on much like a Rolex or Patek Philippe would.
Ditto. You left out the best bit: "It's so important for me to feel strong!"
She's disappeared up her own twattery.
The most important point to highlight: even in Candice Swanepoel the AWatch looks TERRIBLE. Absolutely fugly, particularly for someone with such tiny arms/wrists.
What a disaster, really; not to mention battery life, of course.
I read they will use six 80=-year old Korean women making kimchi in bikinis while wearing their Sammy dumb watches. It will be a cover shot for Hot Babes of the DMZ magazine. Kim Jong Il has agreed to come south to the unveiling if they promise to have Sponge Bob Square Pants there to greet him.

"is the first woman to be featured wearing Apple Watch on a U.S. magazine cover."
First "woman"? So who was the first man?
Don't get your panties in a bunch, sonny boy.
It's just bad writing, something you should be familiar with, now that you've been an AI commenter for a while.
Swanepoel is the first person to be on the cover of a U.S. fashion magazine wearing the purported Apple Watch.
Or to the point, first supermodel.
So what was the first animal?
As Holden Caulfield remarked ... You Sir, are a Gentleman and a Scholar ...
Because he thinks life size beats Barbie ...

Makes that Sally Ride thing seem totally inconsequential.
Swanepoel is a stunner.
Perhaps they could have her meme Mae West:
"Come up and see me sometime, when all I have on is...my iWatch!"
Fixed that for you

Looks like she's dating this guy, maybe they could model the different styles together:

She looks amazing in everything, they could be the entire Watch campaign:

She's not one of those supermodels that have a weird look about them like Cara Delvigne:

Apple will do to the watch industry what they did to phones.
It's becoming clearer the more we hear about it.
You mean the incumbents will be beaten and Android will dominate the rest?
Not seeing it.
