There are *huge* amounts of psychology involved in this kind of marketing. If you think about it, this is actually quite new to Apple. Yes, Jony has had to design beautiful products for some time, but this is a whole new level. iPhone had to look good, but it was not jewelry per se. Apple Watch pretty clearly is.

Very subtle things for sure. It is pictured on an fitness/athlete model on a magazine largely targeted to women (and I think a fitness focused publication?) For reasons I don't quite understand myself, I'm really not too sure about Apple's new marketing guru, Angie Ahrendts. She had a huge price tag, seems to be interested in fixing things that ain't broke, and it isn't clear what she brings to the table. But seeing a strategy like this in a picture, i'm starting to get it. (Yes, my testosterone poisoned brain needs to be fed a picture to understand things....) Face it gang: women have disposable income too. And IMHO, they have different priorities in life than men.

I'd sure like to see some stats on Apple's product appeal by gender. What percentage of those 75M iPhone 6's and 6+'s were bought by women? Think it is largely gender neutral?

Be kinda interested how many women actively follow AI. Sure would like to see a post from a female about this picture. Call me...curious.

Rogifan and Relic are our two regular female posters as far as I know, though there are one or two other irregular ones.

If there are more, they haven't declared themselves. :)

Yep, two women out of what, 5,000 AI users? That answers the question on computer market demographics...

No doubt, Tim Cook is feeling very guilty that we don't have 50% women. :)

What strikes me as odd is the sheer amount of pre-publicity that Apple is making for the FUGLY AWatch - as if it really needed such a push to justify its existence.

Just compare that with the two other game-changers launched by SJ (iPod and iPhone): total surprise and jaw-dropping revelations. As for the AWatch, just meh and more meh, even on a Victoria's Secret "angel".

Kinda like the 138 Water, always advertised with gorgeous, semi-naked girls - in the end it's just water. Just like the AWatch is a new Nano-like thingie minus the battery life.

AI forum members don't represent "the computer market demographic". Or even just the Apple user demographic. Most Apple users just use their Macs or iPhones; they don't bother to sign in to online forums on a rumor website to get into heated arguments over brand loyalty. In other words, they have better things to do. :)

Yeah, because there was no one talking about the iPhone in the months leading up to its launch¡

If you can't see the difference between what I said and mere "rumors" prior to releasing new products, I must rest my case.

These "revelations" you mention can only be determined in retrospect which means the only relevant comparison you have for ?Watch is to compare its rumours to the rumours of those previous products before they became a market success.

I rest my case. Sustained. Overruled. I object. You can't handle the truth. Did you order the Code Red?!

    Course they do.

They're taking selfies and posting photos of the last sausage they ate. Much better things…

"Apple Watch received an estimated 957,000 pre-orders in the United States on April 10, the day the wrist-worn device became available for purchase, according to Slice Intelligence (via Quartz). The digital commerce tracking firm claims that nearly two-thirds (62%) of customers purchased the Apple Watch Sport, with the 42mm Space Gray case being the most popular model sold on the first day.
