I recently read how the period is being used less and less by the Internet literati. Language is also becoming less colorful. It's sad really.
I would argue that they are better called "the internet illiterati".
ps, @jungmark: this thread is a month stale now, but allow me to offer a proxy apology for actually using that ethnic slur back in grammar school, last millennium--when I was an insensitive, stupid kid in an insular environment. It clearly had a lasting impact and I only hope that with the new generation the incidence of such slurs greatly diminish. Cheers!
