What? You don't like watching a 60 second advertisement before you can watch a 15 second stupid pet trick someone uploaded to YouTube at no cost to Google? Yeah, I don't watch as much on YouTube as I used to. The more forced ads, the less I watched. Plus it does seem that Google is skewing the search results to promote videos that include advertising.

I really want an Apple Alternative to YouTube. YouTube is %90 crap and %10 content. I want Apple to develop a video site that filters out all the crap, is 1080p minumum standard and mixes all audio to the same levels. I hate searching for a video only to be ear-raped by a screaming kid (in 240p) who thinks posting on YouTube is cool.... When I was searching "iMovie editing tips".

    Kids?? Psh!!
Search a cartoon on YouTube and be greeted with a bunch of crap cussing gore riddled parodies made by teens that aren't funny. If your child watches content on YouTube eventually they'll run into a video with Spongebob yelling "Suck my *** Patrick!" Before blowing his brains out with a shotgun.
Original episodes from old shows is a brilliant idea. I'm just wondering how they're gonna filter out all the crap.

The problem in this area is that it's not too profitable. If Apple could combine a quality video service with something like Hulu with REALshows that would be awesome.

    Thoughts?

Google is releasing an app on Android. The headline? "Google SPURNS iOS!" AppleInsider reads more webpages and realizes it's also coming to iOS, "AppleInsider has learned"...

For those that missed it AI has now undated the article to say:

" AppleInsider has learned that Google is in fact readying an iOS version of YouTube Kids, though it will not be released until a later date. The eventual launch timing, as well as the cause for the delay, remains unknown."

    Everyone as you were....

    Yeah, Sony/MS fanboys vs. Nintendo.

Yup. But we can't deny DED his click-bait. But at least it didn't take 15,000 words for him to explain it.

Let's make this article about DED!! Durr hurr

Yeah I'm getting sick of YouTube.

I really want Apple to get into this area. It's also unfair to artists etc. there's so many users uploading other people's content it's fu**ed up!!
Not only are you uploading someone's song or movie and stealing, you're making their work look like crap with low quality audio and grainy videos.

Or worse: the video isn't as useful or relevant as the search engine thought it was, but it doesn't matter as long as Google and the channel owner made money showing you ads.

I used to put up with the old AppleTV YouTube app, as clunky as it was, because it lacked ads.

There's folks that don't want to pay cash for a service even if that means putting up with ads. Others would happily pay a premium to go ad-free. Google isn't stupid and realizes that. YouTube will soon be available as a subscription ad-free service too.

Search, YouTube and sometimes mail are the only google services that I use via the web.

I don't want any Google App on my devices.

Freeloader. Just wanting others to pay for the services you use :-p

Yes! I'm desperate for a youtube-like Apple service. Not only is youtube a terrible experience and full of crap, as you say, but it's also a tool for terrorist propaganda:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/youtube-too-overloaded-to-filter-terrorist-videos/

Google says it has too much content to filter out terrorist propaganda. How pathetic is that? What if Apple hosted terrorist propaganda? We'd never hear the end of it.

Anyway, I think Apple could easily come out with a comparable service and get a great start by initiating high standards (as you mentioned), and by integrating their new push into music with video access tied to music purchases or Beats subscriptions.

But I hope there is still some room for silliness, for instance, Spongebob watching pornography* (this is safe for work, and would go over any kids head, but still very funny.. "I was just watching the sports channel!"):

    image

*I'm a bit of a Spongebob fan (seasons 1-3 only), hence my name, Patchy the Pirate, who, on the show, is Spongebob's #1 fan.

I remember when YouTube was YOU-tube, not GOOGLE-tube. They sold out.

I remember the one year Youtube was an independent company... and the following nine years it belonged to Google.

Yes they sold out... a loooong time ago. Aren't there any more current events we can talk about?

    :D

Nice little backhanded slap to the face there. What, iPhone sales are going to tank because people can’t get this app? Families are going to dump their iPads and iPhones and rush out to get an Android device so they download this YouTube app? Really? No, really?

Who is the numbskull who wrote this nonsense and why did AI let this crap article be published? That’s what I’d like to know.

Classic click bait. Ensures plenty of ad revenue for the site.

So AppleTube revenue would come from fees?

That's one possibility, yes. Apple could also justify the development cost as a value add to further incentivize their lucrative hardware business, a la Mail, Photos, Reminders, Maps, etc.* Also, there are other options besides ad revenue as well.

    Edit: Pages, Keynote, Numbers..

They did it with maps and they'll do it again. It's only natural that they focus on their products first. Any forays into competitors' products usually end up slowly degrading until you can point at the product and say.. but this version on their product is so much better. Apple had to kick out maps before Google started taking iOS seriously.

Microsoft did it with office and Google did it with maps. Youtube Kids will be the same unless Apple keeps the screws tight. I fully expect Apple to start a video service once YouTube kids starts turning into garbage on iOS... and then miraculously YouTube Kids will "catch up" to the Android offering.

They only do it because they have to and because they can syphon users off later. Old tactic... Apple doesn't fall for it anymore and neither do I.

I do wish children would stop being referred to as young goats.

Thank you to all those here who haven't addressed them in such terms.
