My kindergarten daughters had no problem with the YouTube interface on the iPad mini, they used the voice search feature to find what they were looking for. Most of the time, they were fascinated and watched other kids/adults playing with their favorite toys. If they want to watch a show, they go to Netflix.
I do wish YouTube would have a full featured parental control with separate password. Right now it only let you filter out explicit content.
I do have a Nexus 7 but my daughters refused to use it because it didn't have a physical home button.
Right, I want to open my 4 year old to be brainwashed by ads delivered by Google, and turn her into a commodity with her personal data bought and sold by these fools.
I fear for your 4-year old if you really want that.
I really want an Apple Alternative to YouTube. YouTube is %90 crap and %10 content. I want Apple to develop a video site that filters out all the crap, is 1080p minumum standard and mixes all audio to the same levels. I hate searching for a video only to be ear-raped by a screaming kid (in 240p) who thinks posting on YouTube is cool.... When I was searching "iMovie editing tips".
Kids?? Psh!!
Search a cartoon on YouTube and be greeted with a bunch of crap cussing gore riddled parodies made by teens that aren't funny. If your child watches content on YouTube eventually they'll run into a video with Spongebob yelling "Suck my *** Patrick!" Before blowing his brains out with a shotgun.
Original episodes from old shows is a brilliant idea. I'm just wondering how they're gonna filter out all the crap.
The problem in this area is that it's not too profitable. If Apple could combine a quality video service with something like Hulu with REALshows that would be awesome.

Thoughts?
1) Considering the lead Apple had with streaming movie trailers I wonder why Apple never saw the opportunity to use that infrastructure to service user-uploaded videos. I wonder if they (or Jobs) thought it would too sloppy or cheapen the look and feel of Apple to do something that open, in the sense that you can pretty much let anyone upload anything they want.
2) With the Apple invented HLS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_Live_Streaming) Apple had the perfect way to service users without needing to care about the progressive vertical resolution with an assumed aspect ratio. Just make it intelligent enough to offer the user the best option for streaming, by default, potentially with an option for a maximum, a minimum, or something specific if the video can be downloaded. I see this as a failed opportunity for Apple because, as we know, the iPhone launched in 2007 with little to no support for WebKit and HTML5 but Apple's successful product helped push these into the foreground and Adobe Flash into the background. Today we have Adobe Flash being the secondary choice for all YouTube videos, and I believe this would have been much faster if Apple had had their own video service prepped for 2007 (or at least in 2009 when the iPhone received it's first built-in video recording, with H.264/AAC support.
Okay everyone is sharing their opinion of YouTube, what does everybody think about Vimeo? I'm not a frequent user of either service, just would like the perspective of others.
Kind of reminiscent of the Adobe tactics back when Windows mattered.
As [@]Gatorguy[/@] pointed out, Google has been very good about supporting Apple. I see no evidence that they are artificially preventing support to hurt Apple. As for Adobe, if your business customer base and profits are from Windows it certainly behooves Adobe to focus on that platform, so that may not have been anything but smart business. The only thing from these two companies I can remember being a strategic delay would be Google Maps for several months after Apple Maps went live, but in the end I don't think that helped Google at all.

Vimeo is a much better experience. No ads
and good quality video, though the content tends to be insufferably hipster. One occasionally stumbles across a gem.
As far as Kid-safe YouTube I'd bet the iOS version is on the way pretty soon. Google usually makes it's apps available to multiple platforms. It only makes sense to do so.
Just how many mobile platforms are there? It makes sense to release for their own platform first I guess.

Well they know where the money is and it sure isn't from Android.

Apple should just buy and develop it.
You have to accept that YouTube is what it is. It is a place where users can create their own content and share it to the world. A lot of that content will be bad while their will be some gems. Adds are at the uploaders discretion if a person wants to profit from their work its fair. Youtubers, at least the non music ones who make money like the add based system it pays their bills. YouTube is a win win now.
Google have completely lost control over YouTube. I was looking for a review of a new mobile phone the other day. The results I got included 3 actual reviews and about 30 fake reviews that were for other phones or just a slideshow of photos with music in the background. Google needs to put an end to these spam videos.

I don't accept youtube for what it is in the slightest.
It's a complete mess and has been ruined by Google. There's nothing winning about it.

Good for your daughters. ????
Yep.
Sounds like Bianca in Eastenders.
I fear for your 4-year old if you really want that.
All the above.

Annoying.
Wow! This is a fun game can we play some more?

You appear to have blocked one or more people.
If you don't want to, go to your settings, where you'll find your block list. Remove the blocks as required.

There 'is' folks? Seriously? Didn't Google's correction checker catch that?

Of course if the worst issue you have with my posts is a grammatical error we're getting to a better place at least.
