How much you guys wanna bet that mechanically, this type C port will be all hard to plug in and unpleasant in feel? I can just see it binding up if your angle is even slightly off.
Lightning port is an amazing design and they should have gone with it. Easy to plug in, a soft polished edge to slide off of if youre a little off axis,
And Thunderbolt will go the way of Firewire. Far superior technology, faded into obscurity.
Lacie bundled an adapter, which is smart. USB-C is yet another new port. I love the lightning port for iOS devices but why is it lacking on the new laptop? Why did Apple go with USB-C?
What say the cognoscenti. It makes me wonder if this new port has special abilities that Apple will tap into later.
This USB-C port is also the power port: lightning doesn't do that?
I knew company would not be able to use the magsafe charger in their own products, you going to have to use the apple supplied one, I bet apple is not going to license the use of the Magsafe charger
Because it’s not Apple proprietary and will become the de facto industry standard that’s why. Thunderbolt simply has not caught on except in the professional market where big speed is worth big money. The rest of us will be using USB-C.
Can you plug the hard drive to the mains and the hard drive to the monitor and the monitor to the mb? Or any single line configuration thereof? This could get very tidy.
If you are talking about daisy chaining then no, USB is not a daisy chain protocol and never was. You will need a hub which Apple already has planned for ($79).
I thought I read that the box it comes in is the stand — you just plug the Lightning cable into it — but I haven't seen any pictures or videos.
Is the new USB 3.1 Type C cable going to replace the Lightening cable?
I love the lightening connector but really want to see a reversible cable that is used practically universally.
Is it the design or the fact that it is 3rd party that you have an issue with?
No Issue with it being a 3rd party, i was only referencing that in response to a previous comment. Still have no idea why Mac_128 compared it to a totally unrelated product. Why not just show a picture of a concrete block?
My point is that it is a product that has NO design thought (in my eyes at least) put into it. One would expect something that looked better when it says "Porsche Designed"
Seems like Apple could focus on the chargers and hubs for a bit. The current ones are huge, ugly, and don't plug in securely. They sort of hang in a weird way and you often have to push them back in flush. Hubs are finicky.
So....
* make this thing small
* make it so I can carry one brick and it can sense what is plugged into it and charge accordingly
* if we're going to go to usb-c, fine. Change the connector
* 10 ft cord would be nice
* lower the prices for all your adapters
Hub:
10-port hub that stays awake and can intelligently charge peripherals. The device shouldn't care if it's plugged into a hub or the computer.
" the device supports transfer speeds up to 100 MBps"
Very poor statement. Read or write? I happen to check performance on disks with different connectors and protocols and I have some clue while building solutions for some studio (for years now). For example for some disk on Gigabit Ethernet 100MBps with some protocols is not so super fast... as far as read goes. Not so with write. Similarily is with any version of USB, Foirewire in the past and ESATA.
Same it would be nice to know if random or sequential and how large the files were.
Otherwise it sounds like pure marketing using some impressive numbers. Disappointment comes when using in life.

There will be a plethora of stands for Apple Watch. I'm sure someone will make a solar one for overnight charging.
Wait...what?

"Porsche Design" hard drive. Now that is hilarious. Its a bloody rectangle box!!!
And what's this?

I hope so.
Lemme see if I have this right. The Griffin Watchstand's selling point is its... ? ?
If I have to buy a charger to charge with it, why do I need the stand? I don't even want to know what they'll be asking for it.
Seems like it's a nice convenience.
And what's this?
That is something that does NOT have a third-party "design" company putting its name on it.
Plus it could be a bit more sleek and compact...! No?

Ive said that about the Edition. Haven't heard anything about the other models.

I.e., can you use things like this hard disk simultaneously with the computer charging and while having a display attached?

So is that all she wrote for Lightning and Thunderbolt?
There doesn't seem to be any USB-C to Thunderbolt adaptor (maybe it's not technically possible) so maybe so.
