its annoying that an apple enthusiast site is moderated such that a known troll, who's purpose is to annoy the shit out of people on purpose, is allowed to operate, but those who identify a troll by its smelly trollish attributes and behaviors are then banned for periods of time. it's absurd.

Agreed. Following the letter of the law (as opposed to its spirit, its intended purpose) is the gray area that trolls seek to thrive in. Gaming the system, as it were.

Egads! Either that guy has a skinny arm or the Apple phone is even larger than I thought.

I would agree with another poster. Don't buy one without trying it on first.

I just thought it was men's and ladies sizes.

Everything is unisex these days. That way Kardashian's ex doesn't have to dither over which one he/she should buy.

That thing already exists... Its the Samsung Gear and its UGLY (its 58mm!!). I don't think they can make my wrist big enough for me to be comfortable to use it as my main screen. I've got terrible vision even when its corrected, which doesn't help.

Please stay on topic. Do we know if this is giving us a visual of the 38mm or the 42mm watch?

This product category will be Tim Cook's first big test to see if he can replicate Steve Jobs's ability to produce a mega-hit in his New Apple. I hope he can, though I think he can't.

    Time will tell.

I love how you pretend, in your classic intellectual dishonesty, that the $17,000 version is the only one for sale. I also like how you pretend that some moron is going to rely on this app to make such a decision.

So what's your standard for success now, having something that meets or exceeds the iPhone? That is a one time product that will never be replicated. Nothing before it was even remotely as successful, neither was anything after it, including everything introduced by SJ. The iPad is infinitely less successful than the iPhone, as is every single other Apple product. Also Steve didn't build the iPhone in a vacuum in his basement, and neither did Tim Cook the Watch. Both these products were created by largely the same team, so stop pretending otherwise.

We all know that no matter how successful the watch is, you will stick to your guns and will not have the honesty, humility, or character to admit you were wrong.

Ha. But seriously folks ... I do wonder how far into pure fashion they will take the watch design ... will they develop watches which clearly have male/female orientation cues? Or stick with the same homogenous design as their sole product model, and allow third parties to offer watch bands for a more targeted demographic?

"Sociopaths" probably fits that sentence better. Sadism is about pain, not hate.

It's all fine and dandy to raise the tantalising prospect of Cook's Apple Watch being successful in Cloud Cuckoo land, but back in the real world, that's a highly unlikely scenario, much as I wish that weren't the case, so the opportunity for me to admit any error on my part will not arise.

    Interesting hypothesis, though.

Well, they've already announced the watch, and it only has one design, so there's your answer.

They haven't announced next year's model. Or, a "Fall season" model. My question is about what they intend to do next, given how important fashion is to this particular category of device.

Let's face it, they already distinguish between male and female; they're just too coy to say so, that being the liberal way. Just look at the band combinations, particularly for the Edition models. They couldn't say male and female any louder if they tried…

    Interesting hypothesis, though.

It's fascinating how confident you are in your predictions even remotely reflecting the real world, considering you're consistently proven wrong about pretty much every single thing concerning Apple. You predicted Tim Cook as a failure, still view him as a failure, while in the real world anyone that is even slightly sane can aknowledge  his remarkable success in leading the company. So yes, the Apple Watch might very well turn out to be a "failure" in your own deluded little bubble, and I hope it is, going by your odd and twisted definitions of these terms. You chided the iPhone 6 to be a horribly designed, flawed, poorly constructed phone, while every reviewer has emphatically stated otherwise, it is loved throughout the world, and has sold in ungodly numbers. Another epic failure. So yeah, I suppose the Apple watch can also safely be a failure in your dillusional view, while being a massive success in the real world.

I'm sorry that you hope the Apple
    Watch will be a failure.

I hope it will be a big success, but that's just me.

    Each to her own.

I think you and I both know that's not true. My entire point is whether they will be a lot louder about it. I certainly don't get the impression they are trying very hard a the moment.

It’s blindingly obvious to me that they're oriented to men and women. Note the black strap only with the big one and the rose strap only with the small one for the Edition watches.

The iPhone 5 comes to mind. None of the pictures did justice to it. When I saw the black one in person, it looked legen... wait for it... dary!! That's the one I bought.

That being said, I love the Apple Watch with the stainless steel link bracelet a lot. Fingers crossed I should have it sometime in May/ June.

Agreed...or the person is in the basement, attic or doing some yard work.  Apple should have given more real examples that don't required another hardware purchase such cameras, home alarm systems, etc.

I'm not saying there isn't some aspect to what you're saying behind the choices Apple is making with the watch sizes. However, you're using a great deal of hyperbole to convey that opinion.

What I see on the Edition is a separate color selection on the classic and modern buckle bands --- black and blue classic only on the 42mm, and red, and what they call "rose gray" which looks beige to me, modern only on the 38mm. But then when I look at the stainless watches, I see the modern buckle band in any color available only for the 38mm stainless, and the leather loop band only available for the 42mm. So using your assertion, I have to assume that the modern buckle is intended only for women, and the leather loop only for men. However, on the edition the classic buckle is offered only on the 42mm, where as the stainless offers it in both the 38mm & 42mm. But how can that be if the classic buckle is for men, and the modern buckle is for women? And why wouldn't the modern buckle appeal to mean? It seems like the first major improvement to the buckle in centuries.

Whether or not this was Apple's intent on some level, it's far from blindingly obvious. What I see are some marketing choices perhaps to ensure adequate coverage in getting the watches to market -- when a clothing manufacturer makes a unisex t-shirt, it's logical to assume the smaller sizes are going to fit more women and the larger sizes are going to fit more men. So perhaps they will offer the smaller size in pink, and the larger size in beige only, at least at first. Some colors like black, they'll have to start manufacturing far enough in advance to ensure enough stock for all sizes and demand. It doesn't mean that men won't buy a small t-shirt, or women a large. That's what I see Apple doing here. Perhaps they didn't have enough time to offer their patented modern buckle in both 42mm and 38mm sizes, so they elected to offer it only on one size to ensure enough product, the size women would be most likely to buy and who are most likely to appreciate the new buckle design, and most likely to seek a color option other than black. Certainly, this explains the pink Sport band in 38mm & 42mm sizes, as simple rubber bracelet is easy to manufacture. I mean according to your logic what man would ever wear a pink watch band? And once the watch is released, we may likely see a number of new bands, as has been rumored by Fall which will completely nullify your hypothesis. And who knows, perhaps Apple thinks the modern buckle is the only kind of buckle they think their products should have and the classic buckle was only offered to meet initial launch demand, and will be dropped once the modern buckle manufacturing quotas are met.

But aside from the subjective color of just two of the bands available, I don't see anything inherent to the watch design which otherwise suggests an obvious "feminine" quality, much less "blindingly" so.
