Seriously, why are people so damn defensive and irate about a competing product? It's just a smartwatch, yet people are calling it downright ugly and a piece of s**t as if the Moto 360 kicked your momma in the face   The design preference for one device over another is something that's not concrete or something as simple as "Right or Wrong."

I can never understand people that have such hostile, mean-spirited hatred for anything that is different from what they like. With that said, I'm glad that there is some variety in the design of the smartwatches available to people. Things would be pretty boring if there were only square-face or only circular-faced smartwatches on the market. But luckily, just like the traditional watch market, there are a wide variety of designs to choose from to suit your own personal taste.

Funny how it sounds when the shoe is on the other foot. How often have trolls dropped by these forums to say crap about Apple products they've never used? Will you scold them too? (My guess is you won't)

I have always preached being level-headed when it comes to products (both Apple and the competition) on these forums, but many here see my acceptance as a sign of weakness. I use a wide variety of products at home and at work, so I've come to appreciate the pluses and minuses of all major platforms.

I have a preference for Apple products, but that doesn't mean that I immediately dismiss everything put out by the competition just because it's non-Apple.

I went ahead and bit the bullet. Best Buy is currently running a promo where you buy a Moto 360 with any Android phone and you get $100 off. This is in addition to the $179 sales price.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/computing-promotions/android-wear-offer/pcmcat372700050004.c?acampID=0&ref=8575135&loc=0&id=pcmcat372700050004

So I picked up a silver Moto 360 with brown leather band for $179.99 and an el cheapo prepaid ZTE Zinger Android smartphone for $39.99. Total came to $119.98 after $100 instant discount. Gonna throw the damn ZTE Zinger on eBay and I'll have a brand new Moto 360 to play around with for less than $100 out of pocket.

That's my kind of deal! :)  And if the Android Wear iOS companion app actually comes out, SCORE!

so cheap is better than good. got it.

And that's what it comes down to. All of the negativity that gets thrown around becomes really old and tiring after a while.

Wait a second, you're talking to a long-time Apple Insider member that has been on this site for nearly seven years, is a diehard Apple fan that happens to have an open mind about competing products.

I bought the Moto 360 because I personally think that it looks good and it would be nice to test out with my work phone, which is an Android-based LG G3. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. And since the price was right, I feel that I'm not really "wasting money" on something that will mainly be paired with a work device (i.e., I'm not getting reimbursed by my company for purchasing the Moto 360).

sorry dude, but make no mistake -- your moto 360 is a complete waste of good money, at any price. its going to be forgotten junk in the drawer by this time next year. if not, come to new orleans a year from now (it'll be french quarter fest! why not!?) wearing it and ill buy you beers all night.

Really? You think you're schooling a poster who's been on here since 2008? [@]Mazda 3s[/@] is a respected member here, and I commend him for giving a competitor's device at least a test drive, and cheaply at that.

Is ok to explore the tech that's out there. Now I won't buy one, not for over a $100, and specially since it doesn't work with my iPhone 6 and I am waiting on my ?Watch, but if he can try it out and put it to the test and compare it to the ?Watch is cool. I would do it if I could, but I'm not buying and android phone either. Is ok to be a bit open minded. Apple may be the best but there are others out there trying. No need to be so brutal with others opinion.

I do t care how long he's been posting. purchasing a moto 360 *now* represents a poor decision that rewards poor taste on the part of the manufacturer, and a poor sense of vision and timing on the part of the buyer. it's a pointless waste of resources that could have been give to the poor. or spent on porn. something, anything would have been more productive that a has-been wanna product built around the leaked rumors of what Apple was working on.

further, doing that and then posting about it on android insider is one thing. posting about it on Apple insider and asking for people 1) give a shit during the watch launch, and 2) be open minded about not giving a shit just shows, again, poor judgement.

I'm sure the fine folks on android insider well be far more forgiving with your tales of Apple watches on their site. rriiiight

Typical Android mentality. Buying something just because it's cheap. Whatever makes you happy it's good but now we know how seriously we can take you when you're talking about quality and design.

Who made you the arbiter of good decisions, and good taste? He saw the opportunity to try a device out, and at little cost. The article is about the Moto 360, and since he actually owns one his opinion is much more valid than someone who's just only seen one.

Because buying something because it's expensive is much better?
At least the poster can actually comment on how good or bad it is rather than relying on a preconceived viewpoint.

The smart watch industry is so interesting right now. We're still at the stage where manufacturers are experimenting and trying something genuinely new. If the Moto 360 gets iOS support, I might pick one up cheaply to see what it's like.

    Nice write up.

The Apple Watch release brings renewed focus to wearable technology.  Good.  The two platforms are proprietary, at least for now, so lowering the price on older Android devices makes sense to ride the hype momentum and get more devices onto the wrists of users in general.  Mass adoption remains a slow process.  Most folks see the wearable as redundant to the smartphone.  Many consumers will never make the move to a $350 device vs. a $40 Timex (my wife for example).

I've used both Apple and Android.  Both have their strengths providing convenience, connection and ease of use.  Both take calls, do emails, memos, reminders, track my steps, take my heart rate, and soon, even my blood sugar.

The 'winner' in the marketplace is fleeting but the constant advances in technology to achieve that 'minute of fame' benefits us all.

Congrats Apple Watch - so glad you're finally here...

I just bought the Apple watch with Milanese loop, and I think that Huawei looks nice in the picture. Would like to see the actual product with the milanese loop band instead of the leather band as shown on the other photo. It does look really thick like a hockey puck though.

You need to see it in real life.

I did today.  The SS and Edition models are stunning.  Literally stunning.  They look better than Rolex's.  They really are the perfect combination of modern industrial design and traditional watches.  It makes Rolex's look old fashion and antique in comparison.

As long as my 'antique' continues to go up in value I'll be happy to keep it and I'll stick it in a drawer and buy an ?Watch :) The damn Rolex loses 5 minutes a week too, that after a $850 service!

I agree it looks really nice with the right band. And I do like the Milanese loop. I'm surprised there's not one for the Edition, but I suspect that would cost as much as the Edition watch itself. And I agree it looks like a hockey puck from the side -- but what I dont understand is why the anti-round camp on this forum keep using lesser smart watch companies efforts to justify why Apple will never offer a round watch. Makes me laugh, as they are basically saying if Apple attempted it, their effort would turn out like these!

It's just that a round watch screen must be so much larger to display information beyond the watch function.

Of course it doesn't. People have demonstrated that with various mock ups. If display size is so important why would Apple even offer a 38mm watch? Isn't a smaller screen harder to see? Some people think 38mm is too large for their wrists, does that mean Apple won't offer an even smaller screen to address that group because it will be harder to read? This also presumes there's no other way to present information than Apple currently has chosen. When Apple decides to do a round watch their solution will be just as intuitive. Apple said they wouldn't do a 5.5" iPhone because among other things, it couldn't be used with one hand. But then they introduced one with the reach feature to mitigate that particular problem.

All you're proposing is a problem in search of a solution.

I'm proposing nothing. The facts are there in the form of actual products which may be compared side by side.
