I'm personally hoping this rumour is true, and the timeframe seems about right for the 4-core mobile Broadwell CPUs. I need a new MBP for WWDC, want one with a force touch trackpad, but don't want to compromise with the current 13" (2-core) model.
They already demoed Skylake ultraportables at their last event fully working. They just need to start mass production if they haven't already. Manufacturers are planning hardware launches around this timeframe:
"In July, we will see the official transition to Windows 10. In August, Skylake will come into the market, so there are two different transitions, one in July, and the other in August. Windows 10 in July and Skylake in August and only in September we will see a more comprehensive transition."
We can quibble over whether it's going to be Q1 or early Q2, but the point is it's not going to be October 2015. You're talking 4-5 months? No way.
October for a Skylake-Y 12" Macbook is perfectly reasonable. Like I said, Intel typically puts the H chips out a bit later but it won't be anywhere near as late as the middle of next year as Cannonlake is launching then.
April was Broadwell 12" MB, 13" MBP
May looks to be Broadwell 15" MBP and iMac
Intel launching Skylake in August
September for new iPhone 6S and iPads
October for Skylake-Y wireless charging/data 12" MB, possibly 13" MBP too
December-February for Skylake-H 15" MBP, possibly iMac and Broadwell-EP Mac Pro
Cannonlake June-October 2016

Maybe I'm not being clear. I'm saying there is no way Apple launches a 15" MBP with Skylake in October. Yes, some chips will be available in August, but not the ones needed for the MBP. You can't even compare the MacBook 12"---it's a totally different intended use. It's like comparing the low power Core M in the current MacBook
with Broadwell MBP chipset. I also highly doubt you'll see a Skylake refresh for the 15" in December or January. Apple will often wait a year for pro refreshes. More likely you're talking May, with Cannonlake early 2017.
Apple can have a second release date later this year for the MacBook Pro with Skylake inside. Holding off on Skylake until 2016 sounds behind the curve...not what we expect from our Apple.

No, I think SDW's right. If Skylake was coming this year, we'd have Thunderbolt 3 leaks by now.
If Apple updates the MacBook Pro this month and then launches a brand new form factor with Skylake, Thunderbolt 3 and wireless charging in October, Pro users will complain loudly. My guess is that if an update happens, it means Apple sees the next major revision happening in 2016.

There are plenty of examples where intel's official shipping date preceded new macbook pros by several months. They tend to slate things into their preferred release windows. Usually it's early to mid fall or February to March. They don't typically release things right on top of the holidays or immediately following them.

If Intel launches a chip, Apple can use it very soon afterwards as they've done before so if Intel had Skylake-H ready in August, a Skylake MBP could be put out in October at a Mac event. If it's not available until October, they could put it out in December-February.
It's all dependent on Intel's release schedule so if they are late then Apple's updates are late. However, if the chips are ready to ship, Apple usually doesn't wait a long time to use them.
Here's hoping Apple refreshes the MacPro with the new Xeons that other vendors have announced. Of course, more memory (DDR4) would help the little black tower too...At least for my use cases.

The next Mac Pro will probably be Broadwell E5 v4, up to 18-cores. This will support DDR4, which can manage 128GB per module so up to 512GB. Support for 3x 5K displays and AMD R9 GPUs (branded as FirePros).
Why would they do that, the mb air could get retina potentially.
Agreed, if the 13 inch air gets 12 hours, and the 13 inch pro gets 10, the 15 inch pro looks sad at 8 hours, an improved processor might get it around 10 as well.
Taking random guess, next year?

hopefully 2 TB of internal storage comes prior to 2016.
Our office has been stuck buying the 13" MacBook Pro since 2012 due to the lack of internal storage. In related news... a pair of OWC's 1 TB SSDs work beautifully as RAID boot drive in the 13"! Our oldest has been running for almost 2 years with no issues & daily use.
