But what does it matter if Windows Phone outsells the iPhone in.... Kenya ?

    Seems like a silly observation.

And again... most Windows Phones in these countries are low-priced budget models... which is a segment Apple doesn't even compete in.

So I understand what those articles were trying to say... but it doesn't really move the needle very much for Windows Phone.
It doesn't affect Apple one iota. I was just surprised that Winphone had any modicum of success anywhere.

I agree. Definitely don't want to have to choose between only 2 phone OS's.  Especially when Apple is the only one of them treating the user as the customer, rather than the product. That really means there is NO choice.   And no competition.

I guess it's fun to think about having numerous phone/tablet vendors/OSs competing in the market and doing well, but that shit is hard to do. Would I ever consider another OS combo? Sure, if said OS/hardware vendor had a setup even remotely close to Apple's slick, integrated systems. I don't see that materializing in my lifetime though. It's not that I really hate Microsoft as a company or the people that work there; it's simply that their stuff sucks. If they could build a desktop OS that didn't blow and an attractive mobile OS that wasn't a clunky mess and they actually worked together in a smart way I might look at it. But like so many other companies, they just don't get it. And it appears to be far too late for them to learn.

This is unbecoming for people who supported Apple when it was 2% of the PC market, like me. A niche product can survive in many cases.

And since windows phone is competing with android phones for the low end why would we care.
