Dvorak slams the Mac(again)
What a loser!
[quote] The Grumpy Old Man of the PC world, John C. Dvorak, says at the outset that he's not looking for attention from Mac users, even though he knows that's exactly what he's going to get. His newest PC Magazine article, called E-Mac, i-Mac, No-Mac is ready for reading.
Dvorak, a columnist who has a well-known and long-established penchant for slamming Apple and its products, starts out by recommending that the Mac simply be discontinued. Calling the platform an "old hound that can't hunt," Dvorak compared the Mac to IBM's aged AS/400 server platform "except for the fact that it's prettier."
"I'm not writing this column as a Mac basher to get attention, although plenty of people will accuse me of doing that," said a disingenuous Dvorak.
Dvorak accuses Apple of not having a new idea since the Mac was introduced in 1984. Apple tried again in the 1990s under the aegis of "a series of inconsequential Apple CEOs who ran Apple like a tire company," said Dvorak, until Steve Jobs came back.
Having successfully recreated UNIX -- long a mainstay of ivory-tower academic geeks and system administrators -- as a user-friendly operating system suitable for mass consumption, "... why can't Apple take its genius to the next level and bring out a completely new machine that is not a Macintosh?" asks Dvorak.
To answer his own question, Dvorak suggested that it's because of the relative lack of innovation in the computer business overall. "All the R&D money has been diverted, mismanaged, killed by zealous bean counters, or simply wasted," he said. And where such funds are being used is primarily in the field of semiconductor development, "a psychopathic rat-race" where the rats eat you when you lose.
Dvorak implied that Apple's recent radical design change for the iMac is indicative of the general direction of computing: "haute design." Comparing today's computer market to car manufacturing in the 1950s, he said that it's all about "form over substance."

utterly pathetic. get a new gimmick, dvorak...
Many chevy owners say, "Ford sucks." You never hear them say "Proton Sucks" Have you ever heard of a Proton? That is my whole point!
Yup, Apple's ideas are never anything to be looked up to, let alone copied (poorly)

that thing is ugly! it should be shaped like a cow instead!
Everything Dvorak says is true. I couldn't agree more with his statements.

Your mentality is definitely on par with his, so I can see your agreeing with him...
I think poor old John is still mad that the mouse is still in use, after he wrote that Apple was crazy for introducing it.
I haven't even read the story - why give the idiot the hits.

To this whole subject I yell from the hilltops:
"meh, so what."

you do know Compaq has had that line for a long time, much longer than the iMac LCD
If you people feel so strongly against the editorial, why don't you speak out in the PC magazine forums. Dvorak himself is responding to posters.

Because we don't hang out at PC boards Nostril. Have you hid those razor blades yet?

Dvorak,
I bow before you. Moron. Why not try bashing Microsoft for creating cheap ass operating systems that look like crap? Why not try bashing Dell for making crap ass ugly computer hardware. Seems to me that Dell is currently running itself like a tire company!?
Apple is doing just fine thank you, and the fact that it beat all predictions of dying years ago proves that they're still alive and well. What are they doing wrong? They've got beautiful hardware, and a solid and stable operating system, with more great products being announced at MacWorld NY.
Dvorak's just upset because he really sees that Apple is shining, and his fellow PC companies are in massive layoffs, and are selling ugly hardware and software.
Oh yeah! Gotta love those Dude Dell commercials. <pleeease>
Dvorak, go crawl away somewhere and leave us all alone from your mindless babble.

because he said himself:

so i think we should respect his privacy and request for non-attention.

What line? I'm talking about Gateway's poorly designed, ugly as all ****, all-in-one response to the first iMac. There's a Profile 4 in the works to respond to the new iMacs.
Everything Dvorak says is true. I couldn't agree more with his statements.

Of course you do. Because you're both CVNTS.
All Dvorak has left is his little article on PC Mag and the occasional flip-flop article on ZDNet (he always seemed to write pro-Mac articles there lately). His TV show is dead so he has nothing else better to do than jerk-off another article for the PC mag circle jerk fans...fvck 'em. You to Nostradamus. All you have left is your self effacing comments...you only make fun of yourself...and we all laugh out loud at you.
Trivia: With the launch of the Newton, Apple intended to retire the Macintosh line in the late '90s. The Newt was intended to be the next wave in personal computing.
At about this time, Jobs was asked what he would do if put back in charge of Apple. His answer? Milk the Mac for all it was worth, and move on to the next big thing.
So Dvorak isn't totally talking out of his nether regions. He's writing in his usual flame-attracting style, but it's not like he's taking a radical or even anti-Apple stance, on the face of it.
And BTW, every one of you who goes and posts on his little feedback page is doing exactly what he wants, regardless of the content of the post.
Dvorak hates Microsoft as much as you do, and he writes articles about them frequently. Way to look like a doofus.
Why can't you people just ignore the fucker?
