I actually met the guy. Twice. While working at Apple, I took the elevator just so I could intentionally run into him. He was incredibly passionate, and smiling the whole time, nice and his personality was very charming. He even remembered my name the second time. The third elevator ride was with him and Larry Ellison and I did not say a word lol

But the question remains: were you ENTERTAINED?!

If the answer is ambiguous, then you weren't... which means that this pleasant first-person fact (or the video above) about one of the most influential tech visionaries of the last 50 years is an INVALID point of view and opinion.

So once again... and the ONLY value to be considered (facts be damned)... Were. You. Entertained?!

Sorry. This whole "entertainment vs. objective truth" and the admitted decisions to go with "entertainment über alles"... have left a very sour taste in my mouth and stain on my keyboard.

Derisiveness sells in the US today. If word gets out that Jobs wasn't a horrible person, there may be lower ticket sales...

Anyway, i say skip the current movies & find Pirates of Silicon Valley - much more entertaining, and because it was before the 15 year rocket to stardom (aka classic Mac era), i think it is a better depiction of the personalities involved in the birthing of personal computing.

As embedded as this story comes across, I don't disagree.

Of course Apple has a good friend in ABC. Disney owns ABC, bought Pixar and Jobs served on the board at Disney. So this kind of thing makes complete sense.

Apple should use the tools they have to flex a little bit of media muscle. It's no different than any other corporation feeding talking points to media outlets.

Boy I hope you don't watch any news on TV then. Sadly it's become by and large entertainment with hopefully some facts sprinkled in.

All the news should be doing is reporting facts IMO, but it's turned into this odd beast of "newsfotainment" mixed with an editorial agenda of some sort and embedded advertising.

It just occurred to me that the settings this film centers around are also not the greatest as far as casting a fair light on Jobs. These were hyper-stressful, down-to-the-wire, make-it-or-break-it moments in time. As a co-founder / CEO, OF COURSE he was going to be intense, yelling and doing whatever had to be done to put the show on. The hours leading up to a product launch are unbridled insanity. Great for making an intense, exciting movie, maybe not so great for a broader look at an individual's personality.

Besides that, there's no treatment of Jobs' marriage and his later 3 kids. Even Isaacson's book shows him to be a good father and husband, and also tells of his many acts of kindness to his friends and former employees, some way beyond what most of us would have done. But the only kind of thing the movies mention (not the Boyle movie, the other one) is that when Jobs was 20 years old he lied to Wozniak about how much money he sold something for, and shorted Wozniak.

You would think the movies would show a story of redemption - how an immature, egotistical genius lost his company, then looked within himself, and became a truly great man and visionary. But no, the writers/directors have to pander to the Jerry Springer crowd.

It seems like Sorkin and Boyle have plenty of room to make a sequel covering the second half of his career and the book. The current movie only covers up to the iMac release. I don't know anything about their plans, but it seems like that would make the story more complete and provide better coverage of the aspects you describe.

On an unrelated note. Cook's criticism of the new movie is interesting since he did not join Apple until right around the end of the movie. Since he hasn't seen the movie he can't offer any first hand perspective.

Yes I've seen what "news" looks like in NA, and we have something similar in Germany too with the privat channels. However, mst of our news comes pretty sedated through the 2 main open and independent channels ARD 1 and ZDF 2. Not too dissimilar to the BBC who they also work with on different projects from time to time.

Regardless of whether you should place your entire trust in them to get the facts straight, neither is in the "Edutainment" misinformation agenda business as that of any NA channel.

NOTE: I downloaded and watched the first Rep. Debate. My jaw just dropped! Really? Reality TV Game Show format not much different then The Price is Right??? Actually, it looked almost like Hunger Games. I was shocked! I'll comment no further on that pathetic, tasteless display and mockery of what the democratic process has become(!)

The debates, any of them, are an abomination for the most part. We will sometimes get together and watch them. You cracked me up because you absolutely nailed it.

My friends and I were joking that they were starting to look like "Politicians Got Talent" and we wouldn't be surprised to see them all of a sudden start singing or dancing, do magic tricks, contortion, back flips, eat fire, swallow a sword, etc.
