    much faster to get pictures....

I have 400 or so pics shared woith a dozen or so apple device owners - it was always fater to view one before on my atv3 by airplay, rather than directly on the atv3 - now its MUCH better on the atv4...

No, it does NOT enable bluetooth keyboards. No, it does NOT include a Podcast app. No, it does not turn on 4K. No, it does NOT install an optical port.

    Any questions?

What!?! Still no optical port? Dagnabit

Gotta chuckle at the lack of reading comprehension here. The update released to day was tvOS 9.0.1 but some apparently think it’s tvOS 9.1 beta. Why is that? Can’t people read?

We’re talking about two different things. I’m talking about tvOS 9.0.1 while YOU are talking about tvOS 9.1 beta. Get it?
Get what? Just cut the snide attitude dude. I only have 9.0.1. Why are you telling me what I have?

Who exactly here is talking about 9.1beta? If that's another comment with a barb aimed at me for some reason, I just remind you, he who chuckles last chuckles longest ... ;)

I assure you all those features I mentioned in my post to you are in 9.0.1.

By the way, the 9.1 versus 9.0.1 has been addressed several times in this thread! Can’t some people read? :p

Because your link was to the 9.1 beta and not today’s 9.0.1 update which had no release notes. So are you saying today’s update now adds Siri support for Apple Music when Eddie Cue said it was coming in 2016?

And Voice Dictation. Searching within apps using the remote is pain in the ass. I hate typing with on screen keyboard.

That link was the key to unlocking the information, I am sorry if "here is the skinny" didn't translate. You and others stated there was no change, I didn't think there was either till I read that info on 9.1 and tried a few things I might not have thought of without that article. So to reiterate, I do not have 9.1 I have 9.0.1 and Siri is a new woman in 9.0.1. I stated this over and over again in the thread. I suspect Siri will get a whole lot better quite soon too.

Yup, and no NFC, a vital feature that Apple left out. Wait...why do I need NFC?...anyway it's future proof when there's a use for it.

Agreed. Despite many new abilities Siri has, she has a long way to go. I tried dictating into the ID and password and no luck but I suspect it might come. As of yet she is weak in third party apps. Plex for example is fully Siri compatible all the way until you try to back up. I found no way to go back a level having vocally drilled down to a specific movie for example. That all said, the promise she exhibits is exciting. I was able to vocally navigate the App Store, select and download an app no problem, so that is great.

My biggest problem is Siri thinks my pronunciation of 'all' is 'oh'. I have to use my best Boston impersonation to get her to understand me. Lucky for me I am married to a Bostonian for speech lessons. ;)

Still confused as to what exactly you are talking about. You appear to indicate that you can now search your iTunes music with Siri but that is contrary to Apple’s latest support bulletin updated today.

    https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT205321

    About search

    • You can use the Search app to find Apps in the App Store. Siri doesn't search for apps in the App Store.

    • At this time, the Search app and Siri don't search music.

    • The Search app and Siri don't search Home Shared libraries.

    •

It says specifically that Siri cannot search music or your iTunes library. Apple has said music search isn’t coming until 2016. So please clarify because I most certainly CANNOT search my iTunes library, Match or otherwise, with tvOS 9.0.1 applied this morning.

Love how everyone is expecting a 0.01 update to add a shit ton of major new user facing features. I mean, really? Expanded Siri sounds great. I expect 9.1 will bring things like bluetooth keyboard support, and maybe be released simultaneously with a new iOS app.

I wrote the following and I quote: .."Yep I can open music on my iTunes Match now verbally and find artists by name! This is awesome." I can do this, I don't make things up. If you need step by steps instructions let me know. I will refrain from using all caps to shout back at you. I also added a caveat stating, and I quote: "My Music if a bit iffy. I can select some artists or albums no problem, while others it will offer me something off of iTunes store instead"

I also said the following and I quote: " I was able to vocally navigate the App Store, select and download an app no problem, so that is great." That is also true.

I have never used the word 'search'. I wrote 'navigate', as in step by step verbal instructions mimicking what would otherwise have been pressing buttons on the remote. I am not nesting instructions.

I have no idea why you have systematically torn my posts apart and apparently taken my comments as a personal sleight. All I ever did was get excited about new features I discovered and shared what I had discovered here.

The problem is that the $80 Siri remote would then cost $150 if it were to support touch ID. Maybe they could've allowed for some kind of iPhone Touch ID handoff? In any case, you only need to enter the password once and set your settings to never ask again and it won't. Not a big deal.

The bigger issue is the stupid activation codes and cablebox info that must be entered manually for every network app. That makes for a bad first impression and should've been put higher on Apple's list of things engineers need to make work before releasing the product.
If they made logins for every network app so easy what features would they have to upsell you to their Apple TV streaming service? They have to save the good stuff for upgrading...

I publicly  apologize to you for my previous attitude. I do have anger issues to deal with at times. I didn’t take your comments as a personal slight. I did take your comment to mean you could somehow play music with Siri. From your original post, "Yep I can open music on my iTunes Match now verbally and find artists by name! This is awesome.” Which leads me to the next question. Are you an Apple Music subscriber because I am and I’m wondering if the Music app is quite different between Apple Music subscribers and non subscribers. For example I can’t seem find any way to purchase music within the Music app. No mention of iTunes Music or iTunes Match either.

    No problem.

Excellent observation. No I am not a paid subscriber to Music, I am only a iTunes Match user. So I ask Siri open the App Music and then select My Music and so on ... I have no idea about the paid service obviously. The nomenclature gets very confusing at times with these things.

Have not done the update but will tonight.

My main issue is Photos.  I have about 250 pictures posted to stream from iCloud.  Works just fine BUT, why does it not go thru ALL the pics when in slideshow or screen saver.  That was the same issue on generation 3.  I was hoping that NOT be the case in this new generation.

After it shows about 10 or so photos, it starts to replay some of the same photos again.  Every now and then it pops in another one not seen from the stream but mostly just repeats the same ones shown previously.  It never seems to show all the photos.  Tried turning of 'Repeat' in the settings but that causes it to go to the settings page after it shows about 10 or so pics.

Photo stream has always been a disappointment for me and hope this issue gets resolved.  Maybe I've done something wrong??

Says you, but I think this makes perfect sense. Spend 3 seconds thinking about the user input from the new remote, and you know that side scrolling is the easiest and most intuitive gesture. This has been used all over the OS, including the new on screen keyboard. Whenever possible, you scroll left/right, because its the better gesture.
