My first computer was a Performa 6200/75.

which i bought after watching an Apple ad on TV, where a boy used his computer to wake him up using his own quicktime movies as an alarm.

I was really disappionted when i found out the Performa 6200 did not have that feature but now I'm glad I bought a mac. Since then I have bought an iMac 233, iMac DV 400 and a PowerMac G4 800DP with 17" Studio Display.

My first ever puter was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. The first Mac in the family was a 128k Macintosh in late 1984.

The first Mac I had purely on my own was an SE30 back in 1989 followed my a IISi in 1990. Have had countless Macs ever since and a few PC's as well. Currently I use both platforms, the PC's mainly as MVS mainframe terminals.

    - Apple][e (1Mhz, no HD)

    - Apple][gs (2.8Mhz, no HD)

    - Performa 636cd (33Mhz, 250MB HD)

    - Performa 6400 with Avid Cinema Card (200Mhz, 2.4GB), 2x CD Burner ($500)

    - Powermac 6500 (300Mhz, 6GB) (popped Avid card out of 6400 and put in 6500) BTW: the 6500 was the first computer, Mac or PC, to break 300Mhz! those were the days...

    - iMacDVSE 400 + 8x Firewire burner.

    - Apples next PowerMac will be my next purchase (although 17" iMac is tempting).

Never owned a PC... But I'm paid to fix them all day... (My Work computer is a 900MhzP3 Laptop with Geforce2Go, not bad, but I miss my mac)

Got rid of the iMacDV about a year ago and was planning on getting a new PM but then I started my MCSE and I didn't want to get a new Mac during that because I would want to play on it instead study ... so I finished the MCSE a few months ago and I have been waiting for the next PM update, for my next purchase. Come on Apple, hurry up!!!! I haven?t got to us OSX since the Public Beta! Oh and I?m definitely getting an iPod!

    Sorry about the life story <img src="graemlins/embarrassed.gif" border="0" alt="[Embarrassed]" />

first experience was probably either the ascii grid of net trek (star trek clone) or adventure (you are in a maze of twisty turny passages all alike) on a university VAX PDP 11? circa '75

first home computer: apple II - cassette drive ('78)

first pc: ibm pc jr ('81)

but whenever one of these discussions starts my dad wins...

he tells tale of moving to the new college where the main computer hadn't been purchased yet and the entire first year of the computer science program was taught with giant cardboard boxes with words like "tape drive" and "card reader" written on them

    now that's low tech <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Back in the days when my age was still single digit I had a Commodore Plus4, then a Commodore 64, then a Commodore PC notebook (286) with blazingly rockin 16 MHz or less.

Later on I unfortunately got onto the PC wagon, 286 Tandon, 40 MB hard disk, 486 SX, Pentium200, Pentium II 450. Then I switched to an iMac DV 400. Current computer is a G4 Cube 450 and I plan to buy a high-end PowerBook by the end of this year and sell my Cube.
