    Good luck with this, Exxon.

    • Dig your smartphone out of your pocket
    • Unlock
    • Swipe to find the Exxon app
    • Tap the app to open
    • Locate the SpeedPass "Pump ID" on the pump
    • Type the "Pump ID" in to the app
    • Choose from their variety of payment options
    • Finally, pay with Apple Pay using TouchID

    ... the epitome of a non customer-first, Microsoft-esque solution.
Oh, my goodness! You poor abused little thing, you! What a CHORE to have to "Dig your smartphone out of your pocket"! Awwwwww.

On the contrary, I think this is an elegant solution for using Apple Pay to buy gas.

I just now downloaded the Speedpass+ app and found all my local Exxon/Mobil stations, which is a handy feature in itself.

When I tap "Pay for Fuel" I get a camera window for scanning the pump's QR code.

I haven't actually used the app yet, but I would expect then to be able to select the Apple Pay-activated card I want to use with which to pay.

Looks very straightforward to me! I will see how the price compares, though. . .
About as "elegant and simple" as ExxonMobile's gas is "competitively priced"... LoL.

QR code is so Walmart, so Y2K.

Surveilance via payment app is so FBI/NSA or GoogleFacebook.

If if you are in the Midwest, just go to Meijers, they have reasonably priced gas from NFC equipped pumps that work flawlessly with Pay via the Watch.

    Thank you, Exxon Mobile.

I used this today, and it worked perfectly.  Yes I'd prefer the pumps had native support for Apple Pay so that I didn't need to open the app, but they have made the app itself incredibly easy.  After you have completed the 1-time setup of the app, all you do is:
      1. Launch the app
      2. Select "Pay for Fuel"
      3. Take a picture of the QR code
      4. Press the Touch ID to authorize payment

Total time = 8 seconds.  Seriously.

I commend Exxon Mobile and their developers for this important step in the right direction.
