There is a reason why people around the world hate Apple products. It's not the product, it's the people that own them. Simply re-read this thread of Walmart hating, poor bashing comments. Elitist... I own 3 iPad mini, iPad Air 2, 2 iPhone 6 and 2 Apple TV. I shop at Walmart and I use their app once a week. I make less that $40,000 a year. You people need a reality check.
While I hate the stupidity masquerading as Apple loyalty often found on this board, it is typical of a board with a focus on one company/platform.
Say what you want, Walmart Pay will be available on more versions of the iPhone than Apple Pay. It simply requires iOS 8.2 or later, is available on Apple Watch and iPad. It's available for most Android phones. This is after just six month in a limited rollout. Adding ~600 more stores will have it well positioned for the holiday season later this year.
The issue is NOT ApplePay. The issue is that Walmart does not want to pay the 2 to 3.5 percent fees that Walmart and any other store has to pay to the banks if they allow bank credit cards to be used.
I pay 2.75% through Square so they must get it less than that. Also, Applepay was supposed to be less because of the higher security involved.
Nothing wrong with allowing multiple payment methods to serve the entire customer base. If they have not had Applepay in their stores yet, they wouldn't know how much it would be used if available.

The business model of supermarket is low margin high volume. Meaning that the credit card fee can the difference between loss and profit. It is a matter of survival for Walmart to avoid such costs. By the way the transaction fee of Walmart is much lower than the 2 to 3 %. With the volume of transactions that Walmart is doing, the fee might be below 1%.
Wal-Mart is using the same steps and tech that the now defunct CurrentC used. If it failed, why try the same thing again? That is an immediate recipe for failure.
The issue is that the big retailers want to do away with the credit card fees. Then instead of passing the savings on to the consumer, they will pocket the extra 3% savings for themselves.
