@macintown - I think that @supadav03 's point is that Current-C is better than having a bunch of retailer specific payment options (Walmart-Pay, Target-Pay, Macy's-Pay, etc.). Neither of those options hold up to OS specific options such at ApplePay and AndroidPay. We all agree on that.
Sorry I wasn't clearer. This is exactly what I meant. Sad truth is, every merchant wants to control the experience from start to end, so they will all take their shot at solutions before finally realizing NFC payments is the way to go.
Many are captive of their in-house "rewards" systems. I have taken to refusing the "do you have a rewards card" question, or if I got one back in the day, not putting my phone number on the check-out screen. The fewer people who play those games, the better the NFC option becomes for stores.
Stay classy, Bentonville!
I guess you could just call MCX a "stalking horse" for Walmart - does Walmart still have the pull to make their WalmartPay successful?
It brings me great joy to see Walmart getting hammered by Amazon
Be careful what you wish for. In many rural areas of the USA there is nowt but Walmart for miles and miles around. They destroyed the competition. If Wallyworld goes then what eh? I suppose Amazon could take over the stores and ... Nah. Wallmart (IMHO and as someone who has been visiting the US for more than 40 years) is a mere shadow of its former self. Range is already limited. In some rural stores the grocery selection is pitiful. There is room for another retailer to move in and replace Wallmart but is Amazon the right one? I Really hope not. Then you will start getting complaints about Amazon being up the creek.
As happy as I am about this, I still think Current-C was a better option than every retailer having "_____ Pay". Walmart announces theirs and Target is following suit with a QR code system. It's just going to get so much worse before it gets better.
Really?! Better option? Have you ever used Apple Pay? Paying with Apple Watch (or iPhone) it takes a second to do a very very secure transaction where no tapping, no scanning, no waiting required.
I think he was referring to the one-offs, like "Walmart Pay". I had to read it twice before I got that. Apple Pay and Android Pay were not included in his "_____ Pay" statement.
I kind of saw this coming when Walmart did its own payment system despite being the primary backer of this.
Typical of WalMart to push something to get others to pay for startup research then take what they liked and created their own payment system using almost identical features and processes. I wonder how close WalMart's junk is to the MCX junk and whether MCX tried patenting anything before WalMart copied it.

I never seen a company hit a wall so fast. Apple over night wiped them out, if it was not for the contracts they had with their members they would have shut the doors long ago. Again Apple Innovates a solution to a problem which is changing how we do things today.

Walmart is a fungus. It moves into a new area, undercuts all the existing stores, gets what it can then leaves after it's ruined the local economy. I doubt Amazon would ever open up a regular walk-in store on a large scale. They make their money by organizing the sale of products, stockpiling some products around the country for quick delivery. If they had to actually open a store and stock it, they'd also need local employees, would have to pay local taxes and would see their profit drop considerably.

Without Wal-Mart, and all their stores, they have nothing!!! There is no way to push this forward. Even Wal-Mart got tired of waiting and created something similar. What I don't get is Wal-Marts version doesn't require direct access to your bank account like CurracyC did. You can link to your credit card, so Wal-mart isn't saving money now with credit card charges. So why are they still stuck on this crappy QR code setup instead of just using Apple Pay and Android Pay? Is customer tracking that important?

... To the tune of Bye Bye Birdie:
Bye bye CurrentC, we hate to see you go ...
