Why come here at all then if you are so satisfied with the Android competition? Just to be a dick?

I'm fairly tech savvy, and when I considered the cost of an iPhone 7 Plus 256 with Applecare over 2 years it costs me about $1165 out the door or $1.60 a day.  Throw in my cell plan at 1.66 a day and the total is $3.26/day. Now, I'll guesstimate that the iPhone 7 Plus is worth at least $350 dollars in two years so that knocks off about $0.50 per day.

So I'm looking at about $2.76 per day for unlimited use for two years of what will be the class leading device for this year.

That analysis makes you look like a cheap bastard that has nothing better to do than be a dick.

And for the record, the Android ecosystem is not the same as the iOS ecosystem, but you already know that.

Well said on all points.  Resale value negates so much of the high price arguments.  That guy is a troll, though.  I wish him all the happiness in the world with his thicker battery android phone with a headphone jack and whatever other features characteristics he likes so much.

I don't know exactly why, but I was hoping for an updated form factor.  I like the current form factor, and I don't think it really needs an update   After two years, it's still the most elegant phone available.  I am least fond of the camera bulge, though.  I would accept thicker overall so it could sit flat on a table without a case.  I like the apple cases, but I like a naked phone better.  Right now, I'm thinking 7 plus, piano black, 128 or 256 gb.
Apple is resistant to, say the least, on re-engineering a form factor for the sake of "change" when they have a roadmap that will require that change coming up the next year anyway. Most of the time, the delay is a technology or manufacturing/production rate issue. This is exactly what Apple is going through with the Mac; the roadmap that they had in place was delayed by Intel delaying releases, and modifying the roadmap backwards would require a substantial interim engineering effort. True, you lose some sales, and even potentially some customers, but the cost/resource savings are substantial.

From Apple's standpoint, it makes a great deal of sense to have passed on Sky Lake for Kaby Lake, for the most part, which pays off for most buyers. Both Apple and the buyer get the major technologies that are required for the next five years of Mac OS support, i.e., TB 3 and USB Type C 3.1 10 Gb. The only thing missing is 5K and HDR support, and for that, look to see a custom Apple GPU/screen solution via TB 3.

In truth though, Apple likely had Cannonlake penciled in for the current Mac refreshes.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick-Tock_model

Tick-Tock is dead; now it's  "process-architecture-optimization", and Kaby Lake is the optimization.
The only Kaby Lake processors that have been officially announced are the ones that go into the MB and MBA.  Kaby Lake processors designed for MBP and desktops won't be out until first quarter / half of 2017.  So if rumors are true and new MBPs and iMac updates are coming out next month, I will bet money they still use Skylake processors.  I don't think Apple delayed MBP and iMac updates because they were waiting for Kaby Lake.  I actually think the delay was due to waiting for AMD's Polaris 14nm GPU.

I jumped ship to Android about a year ago.  And I loved IOS.  I just couldn't stomach the high prices for Iphones. My biggest complaint was the battery. The 6 and 6s are more than thin enough.  If they put a Thicker Battery in them, perhaps I would still be on IOS.  Oh, and I WILL NOT buy any phone -- including Android -- that doesn't have a headphone jack!

I understand how you feel about the battery.    I think a phone that is 50% thicker for a larger battery would be a minor hit like the SE was this year.   Release the iPhone LE in 2017 with a 60% larger battery and I believe that a lot of people who make overnight business trips (among many others) would love it.    Apple could alternate releasing premium 4inch phones in even years and 50% larger phones in odd years.   I'd also like to see the phone act as a recharger for BT ear buds and for the watch.   Carrying around multiple rechargers for an overnight trip is ridiculous.

ditch space gray and add dark black and "piano black" options.
Yes!  Fingers crossed that one of the black options has a DLC coating.
Like the Space Black  Watch (and the Space Black Milanese Loop.)

Why all the excitement over a black iPhone? Remember all the scuffing issues the iPhone 5 suffered because of that shade, its the reason why they switched to Space-Gray in the first place, a nicer more unusual shade to boot. Most consumer electronics are boring old black anyway...I don't get it? The glossy black option does sound quite interesting, but I imagine it'll be a fingerprint magnet. I'm still hoping (maybe in vain) they retain Space-Gray as an option, with that glossy black as the new fifth shade.

Bottom line. Samsung / Andriod phones are good phones I used them for years before switching.

After I switch from Andriod to Apple I will never go back! After watching how the I phone 6s destroys the note 7 in speed test!!!! Even when on paper it should be the other way around!

I enjoy the IOS so much better with no lag!  Looking forward to this new iPhone! If you want a good phone avg like basic phone go Andriod..... If you want a great phone with no lag better faster gaming play! And is unbeaten when it comes to speed test go with Apple!

Apple here and out And never will look back!

So, give me an Android phone, with a bigger battery, and a headphone jack, and a Micro SD card for several hundred dollars less any day.  Such as the new Moto Z ($408) or the soon to be announced Google 5" phone similarly priced.

I don't understand why Iphone folks have to hate on Android folks nor why Android folks have to hate on Iphone folks.  Both folks use the same apps and for the most part they function the same!!!!  There is room for both.  And I can appreciate both.  I concur that IOS is a smoother operating environment.  But I am fairly tech savvy, and I can deal with the quirks of Android for the $$$ differential.  As could most of the followers of Apple blogs!!!!

Flagship Android phones cost the same as the iPhone.  Android performs no where near as nicely and highly as an iPhone.  Android is a pig as an OS.  And the interface is terrible.

I have an Android phone from my old job for testing our app (I still help support their iOS stuff on the side). I installed Star Wars Commander in it and run a third base.  Compared to equivalent tech iPhones it is slow, laggy, and basically sucks.  And the Samsung version of Android is a confusing mess.

I don't know how they got there as I never gave permission or agreed, but there are now ads on the lock screen.   And my day job also develops for both iOS and Android and the Android is buggier and harder to get the same level of performance on.

Just say no to Android and crappy phones.  I don't shop by spec.  I shop by real world needs and use.

I'm still not sure how I feel about no headphone jack.  I am very excited about the camera though. I have always been jealous of the android cameras or the cameras of the Microsoft phone that was made by Nokia.

We will see. I use Bluetooth headphones 90% of the time anyway. Less wires in my car,  when I'm walking around to snag on things, and generally in life. I have enough wires anyway!

I'm not overly excited about this version, though it is my time to upgrade and I probably will get it. I am a little bit intrigued with the note seven, however, every time I've gone to android I've been frustrated even though I really really really really wanted it to work.

It's a bold New World, and changes are coming on almost every level. Including our cell phones!
Is there a cell phone the size of IPhone that has materially better camera than iPhone?   If there is I don't know about it, generally the beer cameras are in bulkier devices which sort of undermines the whole idea of a device that is on your person all day long.  Sounds like you have a severe case of penis envy here.

Im still on an iPhone 4, I try not to get excited about products rather buy new as needed.  As for Android I want nothing to do with that platform as I prefer to work with ethical businesses.  Sadly there are few other choices to be made when it comes to cell phones.   Given that my next cell phone will likely be an iPhone, maybe even the coming release.

As as for a bold new world maybe, but the changes aren't that massive at the moment.    True change will come when your cellphone can also be your desktop simply by plugging into a monitor.  I believe that day is coming I'm just not sure Apple can do it right.
The Galaxy Note 7 and the Nexus 6p have better cameras than the iPhone 6s Plus. Even the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a slightly better camera, especially in low light. I am hoping the iPhone 7 can surpass or match the completion as it will be my next phone.
Spec wise the camera may have higher numbers, but Google's image processing algorithms are crap, which is why the iPhone is still so competitive.
Both the Nexus and the iPhone have the same megapixel number. Also the pictures that I have seen tell a different story.

No one but you mentioned higher numbers. The camera hardware on almost every single flagship is years ahead of what Apple sells. This is a fact. I'm not an ignorant retard talking about megapixels, here.

Yes, it looks like Apple has the speed and algorithms advantage, but it isn't enough to even have a slightly competitive camera, because the camera hardware is so cheap and so weak.

I would like to see 1 credible source, 1 user that actually used both and is educated as far as photography goes, even suggesting that the iPhone camera is on the same ballpark as say, the latest Nexuses or the s7.

For the last few years Apple has been leaking to Bloomberg, WSJ, Kuo, etc a week or so before major events, so they can reduce expectations.

Do you have any proof of this, or are you just randomly making up stuff?
It's just a theory (Tim didn't tell me).  But there does seem to be a pattern: If there is a high hope or expectation of some cool product or feature, a story from a major news source comes out a few weeks early, to tell us it won't happen.

It doesn't mean they make bad products.  I've been upgrading my iPhone every year since the 3GS.

I think many people are overlooking the huge advance we are going to see in HDR/wcg/p3 support in the upgrades in the camera, display and operating system.  Others have done pieces of this, but it is frequently Apple that ties it all together in a way that is more than the sum of the parts.  Apple has a great opportunity to see these technologies get to critical mass of adoption.

We've seen this year as this tech has taken off in TVs, which is consumption of produced content.  The new phones could be the first major source of personally created HDR/WCG content.

On a more decisive note: the iPhone 6s Plus I own, will be in use for along time... With the major exception of the security of the Apple products; "other's" have become to seemingly be as useful by many comparisons; to Apple. Yet, as stated by Apple; the terms of privacy will be AS all other products when next generation arrives... Apple iPhone 7 and such.... leaving ONLY cost for major comparison.... in turn results being extreme via prices....

So, Wednesday, Apple exceeds them. Apple put its efforts into developing computational imaging, and my guess is, even against the few android's that have multiple imagers, that Apple will easily exceed all comers.

Then it will be Android rats all jumping ship

The narcissist's wet dream: more camera upgrades. Yawn.

The rest of the improvements, though, are interesting. Damn, my 2 year old 6+ still works like it did day one, I have no real reason to upgrade.<sigh>

With respect to headphone jacks, the difference is Android phones will eventually adopt USB-C...an industry standard. Meanwhile, Apple's going the proprietary route again with lightning ports. I'm curious however if there's any technical advantage of one over the other?

Perhaps iPhone folks are sick of Android fans coming over to an Apple focused forum and professing their love for non-Apple products and trying to disseminate opinions that nobody cares to hear. Think about it for a second, would you even think about walking into a Chevrolet dealership to chat up the sales staff and prospective customers about how much you enjoy your Ford product or how much money you think you saved? Of course not - nobody with a basic sense of courtesy, decency, or class is going to waste their own time and other peoples's time on such meaningless self serving pursuits. If Android owners are happy with their Android phones that is a wonderful thing - for them. But it doesn't mean a damn thing to people who have zero interest in buying an Android phone and personal solicitations are not going to change a thing. The manufacturers of Android products already spend billions on advertising and propaganda trying to convince prospective buyers to buy their products and consumers of their competitor's products to jump ship. These forums shouldn't be yet another stream of the same mindless advertising and desperate solicitations from brand loyalists outside of the brand focus of this forum.

And to be fair, it's not just the Android evangelists squatting on Apple forums who are an annoyance, it's also the forum writers who constantly submit stories that are exactly aimed at attracting (i.e., baiting) non-Apple diehards to this site. I'd also like to see all the negative articles about non-Apple products banished as well since they only create controversy and flame wars while doing nothing to create meaningful dialog about Apple products on their own merit. Maybe if the name was changed from AppleInsider to AppleEnquirer or TechWrestling our expectations would be different.

Finally, being tech savvy or saving $$$ has almost no bearing on whether someone purchases a personal product like a smartphone, car, audio system, etc. People buy what they like, what they want, and what they are willing to spend their cash on. Some people buy Audis, some people buy Mercedes, and some people buy Buicks. You're probably not going to convince a Mercedes buyer that they'd be happy buying a Buick just to save $$$, even if you go to a Mercedes blog and try to "enlighten" the Mercedes followers about how much they are going to really enjoy owning a Buick, despite a few "quirks" and a substantial $$$ savings over the Mercedes they are already enjoying - quirk free I might add. Not going to happen.

I want a bigger battery for longer battery life.  I spend a lot of time outdoors away from electricity.  I sometimes listen to music on my phone for several hours per day which means bluetooth airbud type headphones would need to be charged nightly.  Hey, I don't mind charging my phone nightly.  But last thing I want to do is to have to charge my watch or headphones nightly as well.  And since I spend so much time outdoors, having to keep track of a lighting to ear phone adapter just doesn't work for me.  And I seriously doubt there will be any $20 or $25 lightening cable ear buds available for Iphone 7s.

I don't know if this will help but in IOS 10 in widgets there's a new battery widget that keeps accurate time on my powerbeats2 wireless headset - much better than that bar at the top.

If they can get the airbuds to last as long as the powerbeats2 you should be good to go. Plus I always keep an emergency plug for my headset in the truck. 30 equals 4 hours. 1 hour charge equals all day

    hope that helps
