... rumors have also claimed that USB-C will be used for charging, replacing MagSafe. ...
Improvements in battery life make it less likely that anyone will need to charge their MB during waking hours.

Agree with everything you say, but my primary benefit from MagSafe has been during sleeping hours...darn dogs! Guess I'll have to be more careful where I leave my laptop to charge overnight. LOL
Add a Roomba into the mix and you've got yourself a lot of damaged cords.
Good to know. Where were thinking of getting a Roomba on account of all the dog hair.  :)
Yeah, they can't tell the difference between an expensive Apple power cord and pet hair. There will be damage unless you never let the cords even close to the floor.

Back around Mac OS 7 or 8 they used to have a software "control stip".

That's a pretty significant and monumental implication ... in that context it's either going to be that impressive, or very disappointing.
I've been waiting for a Mac Pro with a standalone Retina display since before 2013. I fully expect to be disappointed and left waiting yet another year for a serious professional solution (self-destructing laptop component-using machines and 15" or smaller displays are not acceptable, nor are 3rd-party barely-compatible displays).

Did I read this correctly that these new MacBook Pro's will have Skylake processors? According to AppleInsiders own previous story, Kaby Lake has been sent to laptop manufacturers in early September. We wait years for a new laptop that has a processor that's already post peak? I hope this was a mistake in the story.

Expect to see the 27" Thunderbolt Display to come back as a Retina w/Dedicated GPU for Thunderbolt 3 MacBooks and iMac's. They were going to release this back at WWDC but then backed off at last minute. Similar concept to Razer Stealth with the Razer Core external TB3 GPU box. Only in the display instead.
So basically every time you wanted to "upgrade" the GPU, you have to buy a new monitor? That can get pretty expensive.
Yup. Apple is clearly never going to get into the race to the bottom price wars that monitors are firmly a part of. I wonder what their strategy is here.

Same is basically true of the AirPort line. Indispensable devices, but it seems like these are way overpriced. Maybe we will see a refresh of Time Capsule with SSDs? Or integrates that still not ready from prime time Sierra feature of files in the cloud? However it goes down though, I expect Apple to be pushing sales of iCloud space (a war they seem to be losing to competitors.)
"Apple is clearly never going to get into the race to the bottom price wars that monitors are firmly a part of."

I have no expectation of Apple entering the race-to-the-bottom price wars but having to replace your monitor every time you want to upgrade the GPU, seems counter-intuitive.
I agree with you. I wonder what their strategy is, since a monitor/GPU combo seems odd.

Here's the thing: Kaby Lake processors released in early September are the lower power 4.5W (Y-series) & 15W (U-series) processors, both of which are designed for the 12" MB and MBA line respectively.  Kaby Lake processors designed for the 13" MBP (28W) & 15" MBP (45W) are out Q1 2017.  So unless Apple was able to convince Intel to give them an early supply of 28W / 45W Kaby Lake chips, the new MBPs will have Skylake processors for now.

And just as an side, there's an underlying assumption that the new laptops Apple are announcing next week are revamped MBPs. What if rumors are wrong and they're really revamped MBAs.  For all we know the line-up, come next week, could look similar to this:

    13" MBA (entry level model)

    12" rMB
    13" rMB
    15" rMB

15" (current form factor but updated to Skylake / USB-C / TB3 / AMD Polaris GPU)

    11" MBA & 13" MBP discontinued.

I think the reference to the script "hello" on the first Macintosh screen is correct. Am hoping, therefore, that the iMac is part of the show.

Any thoughts on the earliest date the new Macs might be available in an Apple Store?

"No reports, however, have indicated that the release of such a display or any other accessories are imminent." Release is singular so are -> is.

"hello again" is Apple signaling this is a Mac event. Nothing more.

Then they're idiots, as that's as iconic a phrase as the Macs to which it debuted.

This "hello (again)" phrase was used to introduce the original iMac

and it looks more like a colorful powder than a smoke cloud... are they coming back?:)

I agree with the "Hello" message implying a game-changing innovation.

The first time around it was the passing of the torch from the Apple II to the Macintosh.

Next with the iMac representing a ground-up reimagination of what a computer is.

    I'm very interested in Apple's latest game-changer.

My Macs are working machines, so I'm especially hopeful for a big performance makeover.

And hello was how Mac was introduced. It's just a marketing term. Mac is saying hello again. New Macs across the board, probably. New iMac or not here is not the point.

That invitation sets up big expectations!

It almost seems like it's not just a regular update to something, but maybe something completely new, or a radical update!

I can't wait to see what they introduce!

    Bring it on!
