Chrome is nice (when properly applied) and so is titanium (anodized silver look, real titanium looks a little different). However, the all time greatest metal finish in the history of shiny motor baubles is non other than nickle-plating! hard to believe that for so many years this was just the second to last step on the way to cosmetic chrome, didn't anyone in the shop ever stop at the nickle plating phase and just say, "WOW! that shjt looks damn cool just the way it is." Think chrome, but darker and satiny, NOT that smoke-chrome look, it's lusterous without being overtly bright, but if you like bright a slightly different application can make it quite silvery too. Sexy and serious looking. I love it.

Nickle plating an iMac would make a seriously sexy special edition mac.

10-15% of people are allergic to Nickle??? Is that true? Ididnaknowdat! Well, if it's true, then Nickle plating truly is the perfect finish for macs -- anything that can help to further limit their market, be it price, spec, allergens... I can't see Steve not going for it.

that Xserve hacked into a G4 Tower is horrible. Blaerrrk!!!!!

The first mockup is nice, more compact. Or maybe same height but wider?

If they could put all the goodness of El-Capitan (while transforming the second bay into something useful!) into a 7/8ths QS size package, that would make for a very nice update.

People keep mentioning that the El-capitan derived PM's are old and stale, but I really don't see anything better looking out there from anyone. It just needs a little help -- the second drive bay issue, and some front panel I/O access.

At this risk of throwing this topic to "general discussion", I needed to comment.

Although 10-15% is probably correct as an average, it's a funny issue. The incidence of nickle dermatitis is roughly 30% in the female population, and 'bout 5% in the male (although rising every year). It's generally caused by over-exposure to high nickle content through an open wound. Specifically, it's usually caused by gun ear piercing with junk jewellery (that's why the higher female incidence). Granted, the last study I saw was about 5 years ago (by the AMA), but I think I still have a copy around if you want.

As to the case, I think El Capitan needs to be retired.....it's time for something new. I really like the xServe hack.

    Why the curves?

It was the curvy iMac the curvy "toiletseat" iBook and the curvy towers. All curvy and all different non-beige colors

It is angular white or metallic, iBook iPod and Powerbooks and servers.

My guess is that the new towers will be angular and metallic looking. I hope that they will add an addditonal front bay and frontal FW and USB. The handles would be nice but really I do not use them as often as I would frontal FW and USB ports.

The door design with the MB is brilliant they _must_ keep that. An angular design would enable the tower to enhance its square look.

The current towers actually are as deep as they are high but the curves and handles hide that square aspect.

Based on input here, I made afew changes to my concept sketch.

The new sketch now has chromed handles with rubberized grips, maybe they are semi-translucent? Also, metal piping down the edges to give a reason for the chrome handles. it's also taller and has two full size drive bays.

At any rate, this will at least give you something to post about until keynote time.

My opinion, I really like this design, and it fits right in with Ive's Kohler look.

    Here it is:

Remember white is the new black.

I thought orange was the new black. that would make blue the new white, purple the new orange, yellow the new blue, Green the new yellow, & red the new purple.

    That depends...If I can get a 4x DVD-R (out soon), a 48x CD-R, a 16x DVD-ROM (shouldn't the 32x be out now?) on the built-in IDE controller, and 4 WD1200JB in (preferably Raid0+1) Raid1 with PC133 ATA RAID controller, and have everything fit in a nice form-factor, I would love that...

Going back, the T-bird I built has barely enough capacity for that, I think...maybe have to settle for only 2 HDs. While it's got an UGLY case, it's the same height as my Sawtooth...*shrugs* I don't see why not have at least one extra bay in the front...(other than that it'll make the G4 look not as nice...)
