Why does it say "Pok?mon Go" repeatedly in the article?
Either your browser isn't detecting the character encoding properly, or the font that it's using doesn't have the proper accented 'e' character. It looks fine in my browser (Firefox on macOS Sierra).

Even worse they just announced no new content. Ever.  Free or paid. Makes the $9.99 seem even more of a ripoff

Go show me another Mario game that cost $10?  Portable Mario games cost $40.

$10 for a 24 level game is outstanding.

The quality of this game is top notch.

Stop being a cheapskate, $10 for a Mario game is a bargain.

But how would you know? You never bought the game. So you have no idea.

I was about to say, here we go another person from the entitlement generations who think everything should be free they should keep getting more and more without paying, but then I saw your username and I would think you came from the generation which understand you have to have to pay to get something.

When you buy a new car and they top the tank off before you leave the lot do you also expect to keep going back and get more free gas.

I have no problem paying for games or other apps I like. The issue to me is more the statement that there will never be any new content. There's a reason this game has such a relatively low rating for the most popular game.  Never adding new content will not improve the game or that rating

Why the hell do you need new content?

The game has 24 levels, with 3 levels of difficulty for each. Then there is the rally mode, and builder mode.

Nintendo is upfront. Here is a game in all its glory for $10.  That way I'm not nickeled and dimed to death or spammed with ads.
I don't know what's going on with you but of late I have agreed with what you have written KEEP IT UP

It's an okay game but not buying because of the copy protection. If the kids can't play in the car it's not worth it (iPads without networking).

I passed on Diablo for the same reason.  Too often the only time I have to play games I'm on a plane or somewhere without wifi internet.
    too bad for you then.

missing out on a great experience.

One of my favorite games the past couple years. Its amazing how they refined the game play so much that its basically a game driven by a single button. This is great gaming refined to the absolute minimum.

buying this game is also for the greater good. If this is a hit then we can expect to see more Nintendo games on Apple platforms.
Nope, not too bad for me.  Never cared for Mario.

Your greater good isn't mine and frankly if Nintendo doesn't change it's going to go out of business after how the WiiU tanked. There are only 10M WiiUs compared to 20M Nintendo GameCubes and 100M Wiis.  It was a harder flop than the GameCube.

If the Nintendo Switch flops as hard Nintendo will have no choice but to go the Sega route.

I'm ambivalent about what has been said about the Switch.  I'd rather have an iPad than carry that around.
you never cared for Mario.........so why the freak are you commenting here?

Why even put in your 2 cents when this game is not meant for you?  Its like you need an excuse to bitch about something.

This is like me going to a soap opera site and say those shows are crap. come on.
Because the copy protection scheme is something that needs to be commented on.  Single player games should not require internet access to play.  Therefore I would prefer that Nintendo and other game developers not go that route so the "greater good" to me is to provide a 1 star review (which I did) due to the copy protection scheme and not buy the game.  I downloaded it, played all the free levels and decided it wasn't THAT good to live with the handicap.

That was my comment here and on the app store.  Okay game but 1 star due to the copy protection scheme that keeps my kids from being able to play without wifi on their iPads.  Which is exactly when I want a simple single player game app to work.  With wifi they watch youtube or play a multiplayer game with folks on the net.

$10 is fine for a quality game.  I just paid $9.99 for Jade Empire for the iPad because it was a fun game from years ago that I'd like to play again.  Nothing wrong with the price...except from a stockholder perspective.  $9.99 is a huge drop if that's Nintendo's ASP for games moving forward.  There will be a downward pricing pressure on any Mario title moving forward.

I heard you can't jump over the blocks or enemies, it does so automatically. What a bummer. This game has been lobotimized.

your review is the perfect example why Nintendo made a big mistake allowing this app to be 'free'

Guys like you have no intention of liking the game, yet waste Nintendo's time and mess up their reviews.

Nintendo was better off making this a $10 game with no free option. That way they would weed out guys like you who have no intention of buying the game. And why the hell did you download it? It was common knowlege that the game required an internet connection (like many other non-free games by the way)?

Its ridiculous you give it the lowest rating possible just because it does not fit your specialized circumstance.

To me it looks like an excuse to bitch about something.

Don't blame Nintendo for your lack of research.
I blame Nintendo for their dumb assed copy protection scheme that will be broken the second the app hits the Android ecosystem.  APKs can be taken apart fairly easily and the necessary modifications to the code added to make it think the server is happy and the DLC is paid for.  I didn't "mess up their reviews", they did.

If the game was stunning I might have considered buying it anyway.  It wasn't so I didn't.

Those Top Free / Top Grossing ranks are ephemeral. True ranking must be based on customers' feedbacks, which are not very bright for that game. The best feedback ratio is in the US store. Based on 5-star / 1-star ratings at the time of writing:

    US: 1757 / 2725
    UK: 17 / 236
    Canada: 199 / 514
    Germany: 204 / 527
    France: 160 / 514
    Japan: 351 / 791
    China: -- / -- (not found)

Given these feedbacks, investors' fears are not without reason.

    Ambivalence is not hate.

I do hate copy protection schemes that hurts the honest gamer and won't stop the pirates anyway.  Even from Blizzard whom I like very much.  Note that Starcraft II didn't have the always connected requirement imposed on Diablo III.

From the reviews that I've (admittedly casually) perused, a lot of the 1 star reviews were objecting to the price as an IAP, so it does seem like they have a point. 5-9% of 40 million at $10 is a pretty chunk of change, but if an upfront cost of $5 and no IAP could have attracted even a few million customers, that would've been the far better choice, revenue-wise.

And a pay-to-play scheme that isn't shitty might have been better too. I don't mind paying for level packs if it means more level packs will be in development.

Can't help but think the highly locked down single purchase IAP might be the worst of all worlds.

Welcome to the world of Apple, Nintendo. Where great sales numbers result in your stock getting punished.
We'll see if the numbers are sustained. Sure, they have shit tons of downloads right now, but 4-6 months from now what will they be? Seems to be a common issue with App Store Apps. They're a hit at first, and then decline, sometimes significantly. I'm not saying this will happen, I'll play the wait and see game.

Irrelevant. Their stock is being punished because of fabricated targets investors created that Nintendo is supposed to meet. And the fact it's a one-time payment instead of continuous IAP's, which can suck far more money out of a user than a single payment can. They look at how much Clash of Clans or Pokemon Go are making and deem this a failure because it doesn't live up to their expectations. Exactly like what happens to Apple when they don't do what some asshat investors/analysts THINK they should do.

How the hell do you know if the game is stunning or not?  You only played 3 out of the 24 levels. And the first 3 levels are the worst levels of the game.

Its like watching the opening credits of a movie and concluding the movie is a piece of shit.

Amazing game. A bargain at $10. But, 40M downloads and 5-9% conversion to sale is pretty weak. I think Nintendo made a mistake by offering a free download. Should have charged $10 up front.

It's Sog...anyway, it's not my job to sell the game in 3 levels but Nintendo's.  They didn't for me.  I might have bought it without the copy protection.  Same for movie previews which is what those 3 levels were.  If the preview looks really good I might go see the movie.  If not, i'll wait for it on Netflix.  Don't offer a preview at all?  Meh.

Both ways it was a business decision.  Nintendo believes that copy protection outweighs the loss of revenue.  I feel that the copy protection outweighs the potential entertainment.

You will be able to download and enjoy a portion of Super Mario Run for free and can also enjoy all of the game content available after paying a set purchase price.

That AppStore statement is misleading. 3/24, 1/8, 12.5% is not a portion it is a fraction of the game. They should've clearly stated the number of free levels and the number of paid levels. If they'd stated that no one would bother to download just for three levels. So, rip-off. The 1-star ratings are because there is no 0-star rating.

Real gamers want a game you pay for once for a reasonalble fee instead of being nickle and dimed to death.

The game is great. I can't beleive how amazing it is for a game that only requires pushing on the screen.
Fully agree. This is the best game ever created for IOS. Not only are the graphics excellent, but there's so much replay value to discover everything you missed the first time around. 5 stars from me.

I have to agree with you. I didn't actually give the game a 1 star review, but I do not like the fact that it needs an Internet connection to keep playing.

I also keep wishing that I am able to control all of Mario's movements, but then that isn't what the game is about. The game has a whole load of positives and I don't mind paying $10 for a game. But, always-on Internet and no Family Sharing mean that I'll just play the free levels and be done with it.
