You will be able to download and enjoy a portion of Super Mario Run for free and can also enjoy all of the game content available after paying a set purchase price.

That AppStore statement is misleading. 3/24, 1/8, 12.5% is not a portion it is a fraction of the game. They should've clearly stated the number of free levels and the number of paid levels. If they'd stated that no one would bother to download just for three levels. So, rip-off. The 1-star ratings are because there is no 0-star rating.

    Wtf?

Portion means a smaller part of a whole, it's an entirely appropriate word to use.

How is it a "rip off" that some people might have downloaded something for free with an inflated expectation of the number of levels in the package?  "Rip off"?  No money has been taken, it's definitely not a rip off.

I'd be willing to bet that of the 40 million downloads, 90%+ didn't even read the description, they just saw Mario and wanted it.

WTF? Wtf are user feedbacks. The majority of feedbacks in almost all AppStores are 1-star ratings. Lexical explanations would not relieve those customers.

Even worse they just announced no new content. Ever.  Free or paid. Makes the $9.99 seem even more of a ripoff

Go show me another Mario game that cost $10?  Portable Mario games cost $40.

$10 for a 24 level game is outstanding.

The quality of this game is top notch.

$10 for a Mario game is a bargain.

I was about to say, here we go another person from the entitlement generations who think everything should be free they should keep getting more and more without paying, but then I saw your username and I would think you came from the generation which understand you have to have to pay to get something.

When you buy a new car and they top the tank off before you leave the lot do you also expect to keep going back and get more free gas.

I have no problem paying for games or other apps I like. The issue to me is more the statement that there will never be any new content. There's a reason this game has such a relatively low rating for the most popular game.  Never adding new content will not improve the game or that rating

Again, I do not get it, if you grew up in the 80's or prior, you came from the video game era where content was never update, you play until you beat the game then move on to a new game. Even back then, a game cartridge was more than $10 and if you were the type who dropped quarters into the slot, you easily put more than $10 in quarters to beat a single game or to get you name into the high score spot.

Games today are more like the slot machine in a casino, they play on the pavlov's dog classical conditioning, they reward you in a way which drives a behavior they want which is you spending more money. In this case the lure of new content keeps you dropping your quarters in so you can get to the next level and see what is new. This is exactly the reason I do not buy most games, you always have to pay to advance and they keep changing it so you never feel like you finished or accomplish something.
