I'm really interested in whether they'll upgrade the Digital Copy versions of movies. Right now you buy a Blu-ray and many come with a Digital Copy for iTunes, which you redeem and the HD version is unlocked. However, upgrading these to 4K versions would mean you could go out and buy a $10 (CAN) copy of Deadpool, get the BD, and the 4K version from the iTunes store, and it'd be way cheaper than buying the 4K disc, or the 4K iTunes copy. I can't see the studios going along with that (though I really hope they do, as I have TON of Digital Copies unlocked in iTunes).
Does anyone know if the Digital Copy movies in your iTunes library are eligible for the free 4K upgrade?
It will depend on the movie. A lot are being re mastered, either for UHD or streaming in mind.  When it was available last time, they upgraded the SD movies to HD, but you had to make sure that you had that setting selected in the iTunes preferences.
@gordlacey, I've found a lot of times in CA, when getting the Blu + digital movies on black friday / boxing week is often much cheaper than just getting the digital only from iTunes.  Strange but true.  I think the upgrade will all depend on when the film studios do the conversion - I would hazard they will prioritize their most popular films first, so it could be just a case of playing the waiting game. I doubt many will be ready day one, other than current block buster films.

Yeah, I don't expect everything to be available on day 1, but if some of the recent movies unlock in 4K through Digital Copy redemption codes, then the others down the line (if they ever come out). And for some, they'll just never be available in 4K, and that's totally fine.

I actually called Apple and talked to an iTunes advisor about 4K movies provided by Apple.  The advisor dot not seem totally on board with everything coming coming down to road.  I am now seeing movies being provided in 4K via my 4th generation Apple TV (via the Movie app) and, for instance, I see the movie San Andreas now with the 4K icon along with the Dolby Vision icon.  The advisor said if you buy the movie for $9.99 (Apple price) that it will be in 4K when I get the 4K Apple TV and also if I rent the movie for $2.99 (Apple price) it will be in 4K.  That would be great if that is true.  I rent movies at Redbox and 4K discs are not available so if I can rent a movie in 4K that would be a step above Redbox.  I do wonder though (with the new Apple policy that if I purchased a movie on iTunes that it will be converted to 4K) if a movie like Baraka (a visually gorgeous movie originally in 8K UltraDigital HD) which I own a purchased on iTunes will it truly be converted to 4K or will the 4K Apple TV merely upconvert it to 4K before it sends the video signal out to my 4K TV.  Hmmm?  Anyone have an opinion on this?

Also, San Andreas showed the icon for Dolby Vision.  I have a Samsung 4K TV which supports only HDR10.  Will the 4K Apple TV also support HDR10 by default?

I got my 4K Apple TV yesterday.  It was easy to setup.  However, it never went through an automatic check of my TV's resolution and TV's HDR capability (at least not that I am aware of).  I do have the resolution of 4K selected on it.  I am seeing many 4K movies with HDR available via the iMovies app.  I have not purchased any rentals yet in 4K but it is nice to see I can rent something in 4K for as little as $3.99.  I loaded the FOX app on it and I also have Direct TV.  The picture quality of playing the new series "The Orville" was amazing, far superior to that of what I recorded on my DVR from my Direct TV.  I do have a great internet speed (over 60 mbps).  I spent quite a bit of time yesterday afternoon downloading apps, setting them up and logging onto many of those apps.  I have several movies I actually purchased on iTunes and would like to see them upgraded to 4K (such as Baraka) but that movie may never be available in 4K so chances are bad it will not be.  I also have a few Disney movies but they will not allow their movies be upgraded to 4K.

However, I am having some problems right now in managing my apps into folders.  Yesterday I created some folder and placed some apps into them but now that does not work.  I cannot place new apps into existing folders or remove an app from an existing folder.  I will have to call Apple for help on this but will wait for a little while (not critical).
