So in other words, this will be liking watching the Hallmark channel. No thank you.
Or, you know, most of broadcast television, which is free of foul language and talk of vaginal hygiene.

Thankfully this is why there are multiple channels available.

Personally I thought Amazing Stories was a fantastic series full of wonder and enjoyment. Having tits isn't required for a compelling piece of entertainment. Different times and places.

Do we really need another CW or Hallmark Channel or Nickelodean? Besides, stop limiting your potential before you even have a single second of content.

Vaginal hygiene is verboten now? Cover your ears, kids — another Summer’s Eve commmercial is on!

Apple is full of it regarding shying away from explicit content in its programming. Sure, they ban porn apps, they would prefer not to distribute video programming with explicit content ... but Apple's streaming product Apple Music is chock full of explicit lyrics containing everything from base, vulgar language to racist epithets and depictions of general physical, emotional and sexual violence.

Get real, Tim Cook!
Sure you could argue there’s inconsistency between what’s allowed in the App Store and what’s allowed on iTunes but it’s not Apple content. I have no problem if Apple decides it doesn’t want to fund that content itself.

Though this is just a rumor I can see it being true, I said this when all this Apple original content nonsense started. So no programs that don't align closely with Tim Cook's personal and/or political views hah ? No suprise
Thank You Apple for trying to stay classy & not going crazy liberal with your content. We have enough Porn already in the world. A show, with good story, acting & look will do just fine.
True, but there wouldn't be so much if no one wanted it. Having tech people dictate to entertainers how to do their jobs is the sure quickest way to kill entertainment, I doubt Apple would take kindly to talk show hosts telling them how to make their cameras.
Jobs was very family-friendly oriented. Do you not remember his “freedom from porn” comments? App Store guidelines? Etc?

But sure, blame Cook as if he’s personally censoring scripts.

OK... Well, they'll try it for a while and see what happens. I think they don't really care if they lose money on original Apple movie/show content, only that it bolsters the Apple image of quality and good taste. But then again, it runs completely opposite to the Apple Music/Beats ethic of being "real" (whatever that means) and hosting all kinds of controversial content.

They probably shouldn't attempt to be either Disney or HBO, as those already exist. They're trying to walk a very thin line, but offering just plain vanilla is no better than the stuff people get on regular over-the-air TV now.

Pretty sure whatever content they end up allowing will be suitable for all ages. They're not Disney, but Disney was a hero to Jobs.

I have seen the crap being done with no oversight.
We get fake news from CNN ,WaPo & NYT.
Late night shows too.
I like Apple’s & Disney’s approach.

“Fake News” from the Pulitzer-winning NYT — if you believe that, I think there’s a guy who has a wall to sell you.

How would they go about distributing the content? I feel like if they don't charge a subscription fee (which it sounds like they might not), it would be very hard for them to replenish the money they put into this program. This alone is not enough to make anyone specifically buy an Apple product-at least until they reach Netflix and HBO levels. Then again, this would also be a challenge because the vast majority of their most popular shows on those platforms have adult themes.

I have to imagine Apple will offer a series of pre-packaged channels, including their own entertainment product so they can start to compete against the Netflixes, Hulus, YouTube TVs, etc. that are out there now.

Subscriptions are soon to be common everywhere because it creates instant lock-in and customers don't have to think about it.

If they offer shows for free they will
instantly have the biggest TV platform day one which makes sense to tone down violence etc.

but this can backfire in the future as frustrated creative directors leave for freedom and adult viewers opt for Netflix/HBO instead. Not sure what the solution is here....
Disney is doing well with clean content (and not so clean content). Give Apple the chance to do something before the company’s efforts are discounted and/or ridiculed.

Hollywood is already stifled with political correctness which has morphed into SJW nonsense and people are tuning out. Often the more edgy the content, the more successful it is... TWD, GoT, Mad Men... the entire HBO lineup, really. If Apple goes the Disney/kids route, I think it'll do well. If what they produce is as lame and uncool as Carpool Karaoke, I think it will and hope it bombs.
You seem to imply that Apple should become the Disney of the streaming world.    I'm not sure I buy that.   First Disney is still here and successful.    Second, assuming your interest matches the opinion of others.

Should be noted that Disney just laid off lots of people (previously rumored to be in the hundreds) at their ABC TV division:

And back in April they laid off many from their ESPN division:
Apple executives "don't want kids catching a stray nipple,"
They should be able to use their smart technology to block the camera from taking nude photos too. Stray nipples are a curse on Western society the sooner we can eliminate these vile body parts from corrupting our vulnerable teenagers, the better.

Playing it safe to start.. 🤷🏽‍♂️ It’s new territory for them. I supposed it’s not a bad approach.

This also means that any purchase of Netflix is totally out of the question.

if the content is free and G-rated - I am confident it will be crap. (Carpool karaoke anyone?)

apple let should stop this - save the money - and put it into CAPEX or return it too shareholders - or
use the money to build enougn iPhone X to meet demand.

Violence, sex and danger are part of the human experience for most people in the world. What stories is Apple planning to tell?
Sounds superior to say they are better than others because they plan to offer only G and PG type content.
Definitely out of the zeitgeist unless maybe iTunes is going to be a family and Christian themed network?

I hope the report turns out to be just a test bubble.

While many good creative stories can be told with actors wearing clothing and without simulated violence, epic tales worthy of continued viewing week after week (or binge watching) would be sterile without romance or the overcoming of the assorted types of evil deeds in humanity’s dark side such as lying, stealing, cheating, and killing.

If someone wants to watch family safe children shows, OK; just realize they’ll more likely than not be boring, predictable, repetive and unrealistic. But, hey, could be someone is thinking ahead to calm and stability people will crave in the “Post Trump Era.”
