Well that sounds boring, might as well watch network TV. I don't think Apple will succeed in this space if it carries on this way. It'll still be interesting to see if they can actually make compelling content without all that though...the Disney of the tech world? Maybe Apple will buy the bid D after all! Like that cellular company (forgot which one) bought WB.
Thinking back, shows that were popular like The X-Files, Friends, Scrubs, Boston Legal, House, etc. didn't have too many risqué things.
Shows from a wide range of genres, like reality, sports, comedies, dramas, etc. have lived for a long time on TV without risqué content.
Nudity and excessive violence has only become prevalent after HBO started programming (if we ignore the WWF Attitude era).
If Apple is avoiding risqué content, it only means that they are avoiding a certain genre. There is still a whole lot of TV entertainment for adults without soft porn or excessive violence. I don't think this is an issue.
Why are people comparing to Disney - Disney release R-rated films too, just under the Touchstone or Miramax etc. labels instead of being directly Disney branded. Also Disney punished us with Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus, not people I'd want my wee girl to look up to.
Though this is just a rumor I can see it being true, I said this when all this Apple original content nonsense started. So no programs that don't align closely with Tim Cook's personal and/or political views hah ? No suprise
Thank You Apple for trying to stay classy & not going crazy liberal with your content.
We have enough Porn already in the world. A show, with good story, acting & look will do just fine.
True, but there wouldn't be so much if no one wanted it. Having tech people dictate to entertainers how to do their jobs is the sure quickest way to kill entertainment, I doubt Apple would take kindly to talk show hosts telling them how to make their cameras.
I have seen the crap being done with no oversight. We get fake news from CNN ,WaPo & NYT. Late night shows too. I like Apple’s & Disney’s approach.
“Fake News” from the Pulitzer-winning NYT — if you believe that, I think there’s a guy who has a wall to sell you.
This also means that any purchase of Netflix is totally out of the question.
if the content is free and G-rated - I am confident it will be crap. (Carpool karaoke anyone?)
apple let should stop this - save the money - and put it into CAPEX or return it too shareholders - or use the money to build enougn iPhone X to meet demand.
Like money is what’s holding back iPhone production.
I'm not conservative by any stretch of the imagination but I am sick of the mainstreaming of soft porn in TV shows. Does anyone like the long drawn out sex scenes? Even if you don't happen to be watching with a parent or child, they're just plain boring. And enjoyment of gratuitous violence seems like an irresponsible whetting of dangerous appetites. Heard about the numerous Dexter copycat murders?
Hollywood is already stifled with political correctness which has morphed into SJW nonsense and people are tuning out.
What does this mean?
if it's the SJW term... Social Justice Warrior. Used to be limited to hippies with matted hair wearing clothing made from hemp... now often found on facebook spouting the odds about anything and everything they can without having the foggiest about the subject matter. Usually incredibly hypocritical when it comes down to it but they won't let that get in the way of a good extreme-leftist agenda.

I'm with you. Sex scenes, though for one thing, are cheap. They're cheap to produce by creating 10s of seconds to several minutes of footage sans any dialogue. Next time you see a sex scene, time it and you'll be amazed how much time has passed since dialogue and non-sex acting occurred to move the actual story along. They're completely superfluous and unnecessary but in a society that is so restrained, antiquated and conservative in its sexuality, people think sex is important programme and story content. Like romance and violence, people think they're storytelling staples, that without graphic depiction of all of them you don't have a story. How silly is all I can say.
Are you predicting doom for Disney, too? No risqué content, lame right!?
Disney owns a software pornography channel and several studios that work exclusively in violence and casualized sexuality. They’re one of the least family friendly organizations, honestly.
I hope the report turns out to be just a test bubble.
While many good creative stories can be told with actors wearing clothing and without simulated violence, epic tales worthy of continued viewing week after week (or binge watching) would be sterile without romance or the overcoming of the assorted types of evil deeds in humanity’s dark side such as lying, stealing, cheating, and killing.
If someone wants to watch family safe children shows, OK; just realize they’ll more likely than not be boring, predictable, repetive and unrealistic. But, hey, could be someone is thinking ahead to calm and stability people will crave in the “Post Trump Era.”
Star Trek, Friends, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman, Lois and Clark, Lou Grant, etc. are great examples of not boring, family safe shows.

What the hell are you guys watching that has “long drawn out sex scenes” that don’t advance the plot and has you getting out stopwatches?

Yeah, and after watching Game of Thrones I went and chopped the head off of a horse. Because TV.

Your personal belief (not even anecdotes) on the effect of television programming (of course you never questioned why that word was chosen) are irrelevant, since it has been demonstrated that it works subconsciously to affect people and their decisions, as well as consciously. His point is valid.
Hollywood is already stifled with political correctness which has morphed into SJW nonsense and people are tuning out.
What does this mean?
I’m not sure what website these SJW complainers hail from, but it’s nonsense as far as I can tell. It seems to mean “I enjoy my current privileged status, but I don’t want anyone else to have it, because for them to have some, I must lose some of mine.”
I’m happy to block anyone who spouts that SJW complaint crap because I’ve noticed they all just parrot the same idiotic talking points that someone’s programmed into them. There’s never an original thought to be found.
“The Andy Griffith Show”...sigh...”My Three Sons”...but the world was a very different place. ”Swallows and Amazons”...“Dr. Finlay’s Casebook”,(but those two likely not known to an American audience). “Cheers”,anyone? Well, I liked it,and it was hugely popular.

Just like the new right embraces racist, sexist, ableist, xenophobic bigotry, as if those are virtues that really need clinging to.
