And of course they even copied Apple price (after Apple was criticized for the high price initially).

Agreed, but I’m still hesitant to purchase them considering how much I sweat when working out. I’ve burned through three LG Tones, my Jlab Epic 1 didn’t last three months, and it’s replacment, Jlab Epic 2 has issues immediately outside of the one year warranty. That’s $250 in wireless headsets over a couple years.  I’m hoping version two of the AirPods ships with the Qi-compliant charging case in the near future.
The charging case won't help you if you are worried about the AirPods being adversely affected by sweat.  The AirPods are the same, it's just that the case no longer needs the lightning cable.  So if the current AirPods are susceptible to damage by sweat, the Qi compatible case won't make a difference.
They aren't. Bloggers have been putting them thru the wash and leaving them dunked in water.

    That doesn’t sound right.

Not sure. Gonna wait for the GoogleGuy explanation.

I've been wearing my AirPods while washing my vehicles where they get exposed to plenty of sweat and water spray. No problems.

My brother wears his while he's mowing his yard on hot, Summer days in 90°F+ temperatures and they're doing just fine after being drenched in sweat. He impulsively bought his AirPods after seeing mine and intended to use them in addition to his expensive Bose wireless headphones that he loved. It didn't take him long after using the AirPods to chunk his Bose headphones in the bottom of the closet. They'll probably end up in his next garage sale.

Right there with you. I haven't really figured it out. It's more of a by guess/by golly deal.

Or, google isn’t held to the same standard, radathekat.
apple must be perfect, google good enough.
AAPL is a victim of their own success, and I say that in a most endearing way.  They set the bar high and now have to live up to it.  Had they started with junk, like Android, they could underwhelm and still claim victory.
And Apple being held to a high standard is fair.  Apple should be held to a higher standard than say Panasonic.

However, we keep hearing how Google is a great company, clear leader in everything they do.  I would think that Google should also be held to a high standard, but they are not.

I sweat heavily when working out, and have been using my AirPods exclusively for the last 10 months.  No sign of an issue so far.

I think where the pixel buds (really? That name!) shine is access to Google’s voice assistant. Yes - it’s software - but after comparing it with Siri, Apple has a long way to go to get to Google’s level.
Not being able to play back music in Spotify (because Apple blocks Spotify - something they should be sued for) and not being able to get a decent, spoken result for a search query are just a few examples why Siri performs so badly, which then obviously extends to their wireless buds and the soon to be released HomePod speakers.
So, Google announced in early October that in a few weeks (so say end of October) that Google Assistant would be able to access Spotify to play genres of music (amongst other commands) on mobile devices that had said assistant.

And we are what, in the middle of November?  Wow, Apple is soooo far behind.  Let the lawsuits begin...

Really wish Apple had kept the iPod Shuffle and made a version that would work with the AirPods. I’m not going to replace my now inoperable $99 iPod Shuffle with a $329 Watch and I shouldn’t have to. I’m looking at options from other companies because there’s no low-end sports music product from my preferred company, Apple.

They have a WIRE connecting them.

NOTHING like the truly wireless AirPods. And google gets praise for completely neglecting to solve the wireless stereo sync issue Apple perfected.

Ridiculous. Always bending over backward to heap undeserved praise on the also-rans while digging the only company worth its stock.

Even when hen they can't help but agree Apple is better they find some way of diminishing the win.

    "Shocking plot twist" my butt!

The thing that makes AirPods fit so much better than EarPods is the lack of the wire.

They are not susceptible to sweat. I swim in mine, at least swim around in them. I have never had any issue. For a short amount of time when they are waterlogged you get muffled sound but after a little shake they go back to sounding normal. I have had mine since they came out and have no issues

I have paired the AirPods with my iMac with no difficulty.  I can’t imagine a reason they couldn’t be paired with a MacBook.  I suspect that while MacOS makes it extremely simple to pair, non-Mac laptops could also pair as long as they supported Bluetooth.

That being said, why the hell would the Google offering not be able to connect with a laptop?  (Answer is likely, “because... Android.”)

Awesome how the Google/Android ecosystem gets graded on the curve because the media's love of fixed scenarios must be served, facts be damned. Are these fantastic wireless buds actually wireless? Not according to the Google-provided photo illustrating this post. And maybe I'm just an old fart, but does playback suffer from skipping like with nearly every wireless system except for AirPods? Again, as an old fart who grew up on vinyl records where skipping was almost a feature, not a bug, that was a huge deal breaker for me with other Bluetooth buds.
