DirecTV Now renews four-month subscription promo with Apple TV 4K

DirectTV Now has re-started its launch promotion, and is offering new subscribers the new Apple TV 4K if they pay four months of service in advance.

Unlike the August reboot of the promotion, the offer for a 32GB Apple TV 4K can be redeemed online.. The new deal requires users to sign up, and pre-pay for four months of service at a minimum of $35 per month.

The offer isn't visible on the home page. Users must proceed through the sign-up process before the offer for the Apple TV 4K, or a Roku device, is made visible.

The offer is limited to one redemption per DirecTV Now account, with two shipments allowed per household. An account that took advantage of previous Apple TV promotions is not allowed to participate in the latest deal.

After a bumpy launch, DirecTV Now garnered 200,000 subscribers in its first month of service.

The streaming platform provides users with a slate of popular cable channels including properties owned by AMC, Discovery, Disney, NBCUniversal and Viacom, among others. Most recently, AT&T this month struck a deal with CBS to carry streaming and on-demand content from CBS News, CBS Sports Network, The CW, Pop and Showtime.

Along with Apple TV, DirecTV Now supports a wide variety of internet-connected devices including Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, iPhone, iPad, Android hardware, Chromecast, and Google Cast-enabled LeEco ecotvs and VIZIO SmartCast Displays. Subscribers can also access programming through web browsers.

AT&T's offer is available while supplies last, and devices ship out within two to three weeks of placing an order.

Does not show AppleTV 4K, it’s shows AppleTV 4th generation and FireTV stick as available options.

I'm looking at a sign-up screen right now with the 4K.

Do they have DVR capability yet?

I really wish DirecTV Now would fix the interface. It's so clunky with lag when trying to navigate on Apple TV, I'd swear I was using an Android device. But, since I'm locked in from the original $35 Go Big promo, I'll hang on to it. @Cyberzombie Not that I'm aware of. It wasn't too long ago that we finally got TV Provider sign-in, so baby steps. I'm tempted to jump on this, again, just for the discounted price of the ATV 4K. Don't worry, there are ways around the whole "new customer" requirement in the digital age. ;)

In a way, this TV thingee is analogous to smartphone battles 10 years ago:   If the content stinks, why buy one?   A great device to watch shitty shows on...

I agree.  I have never seen worse scrolling on any Apple device.

I think they are using the same crapy code base for all devices, leading to the lowest common denominator.

If you look around you can find the Apple TV 4K discounted for close to the price of that prepaid 4-month subscription. Open-box at Adorama for $152 no tax, $179 new at Walmart. Think I remember some Black Friday deals too.

DirectTV Now on my last gen Apple TV was horrid IMO.

No cloud DVR, yet?  No trial in this household. One of the things Sony really got right with VUE.

I had such an awful experience a year ago that I'm not even willing to give them a second chance.

After three months of battling constant error messages and missing features, they finally did the right thing by giving me a full refund and told me to keep the "free" Apple TV.

I also agree. One of the worst menu GUIs I have ever used, and no way to get more info on programs. I am also on the original $35 Go Big promo, which is why I am hanging on to my subscription. Based on what I have read, I was also expecting DVR capabilities to be rolled out be now, but still waiting. If DVR capability doesn't happen in the next month or two I will probably cancel my subscription.
