800x600 is fine for users who aren't using photoshop or any other power apps. It is perfect for people who are just doing word processing, web browsing and email.</strong><hr></blockquote>

    Not in OS X.

I consider myself a "power user" or maybe a "prosumer" and I have used Photoshop and OSX on a toilet iBook and it's fine. Not ideal, but certainly useable.

I'm glad so many are so fond of the clamshells. They are truly the best. It's too bad Apple's current offerings are so dull in comparison.

The tangerine ones weren't too bad. I thought the blueberry ones kinda were. Graphite was decent and Key Lime was so cool. But overall I'd still take a dual usb over a clamshell.

i might buy that graphite isn't girly. the dual usb is certainly more aestitically pleasing. yeah i didn't spell that right.

Speaking of the clam shell ibooks, is it possible/safe to install TiBook ram into an ibook? I recently purchased 2 512 dimms for my new TiBook so I now have two unused 256 dimms.

I know the Powerbook is PC 133 and the iBook is PC 66, but I throught I remember reading somewhere that the 133 chips could "downscale"(for lack of a better word) and work in lower slots.)

I've decided tis time to upgrade my sister's indigo blue iBook to OS X, and it would be nice not to have to buy more memory for the machine.

This is kind of off topic, but it since it seems to be related and a yes or no answer, doesn't seem to be worthy of a whole new discusison.

    Thanks

Yeah, PC 133 should work fine in the ibook. However, some of the ibooks max out at 360MB ram, so that might be an issue.

I have used a clamshell for almost 2 years. I just got a new TiBook (1Ghz) and I cannot believe how awful the iBook is in comparison, especially the screen. I have no idea how I worked on that thing for so long. It's painful to even look at now. It is so much heavier, bulkier, and uglier than my TiBook. Oh, the bigger screen with better resolution is the real kicker. Fantastic. The TiBook is so sexy. Now I can go to school with my new computer and not have to hide in the basement of the library, ashamed of my "girlish" computer.

Clamshell iBooks suck compared to what is available today.

But it still serves as my jukebox for my workout room (with an external hard drive--that 10 gig drive is just too tiny)

Wasn't the just the maximum because there weren't any bigger chips out at the time?
