Sonically, AirPods just about hold their own to sub-$90.00 earphones. Problems I experience are a repeatable drop (total loss) of signal if my head is tilted down and turned slightly to the right (there appears to be a massive signal field drop off). I have practiced this so often I can now shut them down even if I'm in close proximity to the main BT source. The frequency response also leaves a lot to be desired. The low-frequency roll off is far too steep and the listener loses a couple of octaves in the low frequencies. Compared to my decade old Etymotics the AirPods sound cheap. Having said that, they are great for casual out and about use. I can lose them for hours only to realise (batteries flat) they are still resting in my ears.
2nd gen. AirPods need serious work on improving their frequency responsea dn fidelity. Restricting water ingress should be low on the R&D redesign/build agenda. Apple; Respect your customer choices and cease marketing replacement lost/damaged AirPods at near full retail price.
Second, there is flatly no way Apple is going to bring out new AirPods with new features every year like they do the iPhone. I should think they'd get updated about as often as the Apple TV or the Apple Watch, about every two-to-three years. IMO, Apple will update the AirPods only when some notable technological change offers a real advantage over the current ones. At present there is zero threat to AirPods from truly-wireless earbuds from anyone else, so bringing some new ones out (with the described incredibly minor-to-nonexistant improvements) in the near future would simply anger those who made the investment in the first set. Certainly there will be some new AirPods at some point ... but the source article gets one major prediction obviously wrong, and seems highly speculative on the second prediction. To quote the Magic 8-ball "my sources say no."
You do know tha AirPods were introduced in 2016, and so an update this year would be 2 years later?
Hey Siri would be great as it removes yet further friction. And frees up the double tap for other functions. Another colour option would certainly increase sales.
I love my AirPods. Use them for multiple hours a day, every day, as they shift from my iPhone to iPad to Mac for all manner of uses. Have held up to no end of sweat without issue. The pure wireless nature is a truly “magical” experience, that you don’t understand until you try it.
Apple Watch + the Now Playing feature are a match made in heaven.
If if you are in the Apple ecosystem, and they fit for you, then get a pair. You will not be disappointed with the flexibility and freedom. And they do fit and sound better than EarPods.

Barely.... You couldn't actually get one for yourself until very late in December 2016. Kinda like saying the Homepod was introduced in mid 2017. Technically correct I suppose.

So if updated AirPods are introduced in Sept/Oct this year (when one would expect), you will stick to your guns and say it was updated "after 1 year", rather than 2 years? Is 1 year & 10 months closer to 2 years, or 1?

Huh? I've not said it will be updated after one year, not even claiming they are updating AirPods AT ALL this year. Perhaps wait and see if they announce anything and when. IF they do. Then you can decide for yourself if it has been two years or whatever.

I am searching around to find an AirPods case supporting wireless charging feature, sorry, I can't wait till AirPods 2018 laid on Apple Store.
Any help?
