Agreed. My iPad Air is still running like charm. I got to replace it with 12.9" iPad Pro today because my 4-year-old stood on the screen and broke the glass last week...fixing the damn screen costs over $150, so I retire it.
Feel free to send that busted one on over here. :)

I was all set to replace my A2 with a 10.5" iPad Pro, for the pencil.

This new iPad may be just the ticket. I hope the next iPad upgrade means a new mini. I've got a 2, and even a four would be decent as I really miss TID on it.

I agree. I really hope they don't discontinue the mini, and add pencil support to it. That's probably my next purchase for work if they do.

You're probably one of those guys who follow iFixit.com to get $20 glass and diy huh? I looked at the video and damn, the effort put in to fix that is too much for the iPad of which value is <$100.

I just did it but with 12.9" iPad Pro, 256GB at $799 in Costco. It's even cheaper than the refurbished one on Apple website ($809).

AppleInsider, would you please include a currency sign (i.e. US) in front of every $ mentioned in all your articles?
That’s not typical style guide for most US based publications.

Super dull upgrade but exciting for who they are targeting.
The memory is a bit hobbled.  Apple might have issues pushing out iOS updates for the next 4 years, without killing the performance.

It is a good market share move...
At $329, It'll make it more viable for people to upgrade after 2 years By that time there will be a better iPad.
People shouldn’t have to buy a new iPad every 2 years because the RAM isn’t sufficient. I would never buy another iPad that didn’t have at least 4GB RAM.
Right now the 9.7" iPad has 2GB RAM.  I'm willing to bet in a couple of years time it'll be double that.  That's the point I was getting at.
Exactly, his hand-wringing and teeth gnashing doesn't make sense. It’s not like all people will need to upgrade all devices every two years, because Apple doesn’t up them every two years like clockwork. And whenever they do bump it, some may wish to upgrade and some won’t. It all depends on use case and value proposition, which is personal.

But boy, he sure likes to tilt at windmills everywhere...”Upsell conspiracy!”

I'm pretty sure Rogifan claimed to be a female a while back.
Claimed? I am female. But I guess that’s the tech world...assuming everyone is male.
Noted, and will use that gender pronoun going forward. But based on factual demographics it’s entirely reasonable to assume this niche of tech forum participants are male until noted otherwise. It’s not nefarious, it’s just based on data and what makes a safe bet. Most of the time it pays off (I can only think of two female regulars here, now including you).

Yeah, I don't see what the big deal is.  I am Canadian, but whenever I see a $ sign anywhere outside my country I assume USD until proven otherwise.  As a US site, I would never expect them to identify USD explicitly.

Yup...it's like you go to Philadelphia and order a Cheese Steak Sandwich as: Can I have a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich please? lol.

I wish they would have put 4 GB of RAM in the new one.  Although, I understand them skimping on a few things considering the price.

I guess I'll hold on to my iPad Air 2 for a while longer.

It seems to me like the specs for the 2018 iPad are very similar to the 2017 iPad Pro specs. Basically a discounted 2017 iPad Pro.
For the most part yes.  The only feature the 2018 iPad doesn't have is the smart connector.
and laminated screen (no air gap), antiglare coating, 120hz refresh, TrueTone, quad speakers...
The person I was replying to was comparing the 2018 iPad to the previous 9.7" iPad Pro. The 9.7" iPad Pro did not have 120hz refresh ProMotion display.  Good points on the other features.  But the A10 Fusion SoC in the 2018 iPad is faster than the A9X.
That iPad Pro came out in 2016. The 2017 iPad Pro is 10.5" and comes with all those features, as well as the larger display, 4 GB RAM, and the wide-gamut display.

I'm pretty sure you're right, and that was just a mistype, but it threw me, as well. I was going to post the same thing.

They said "2017 iPad Pro" which is the 10.5" model though. The 9.7" iPad Pro is from 2016.

    Maybe. :)

I replaced the glass on my 2nd gen iPad mini last year.  Since it's so old, I figured it wouldn't be much of a loss if it didn't work.  However, it's the last device in the house on which the Stanza epub reader still works, so it was worth a shot. :)
