Going all-in on USB-C with Apple's ecosystem? That's impossible -- for now

Any thoughts on replacing a dying 2012 MBP with either a 15 inch current version vs. a late 2015 version?  I'm really conflicted and concerned about no magsafe and only USB-C.  The older MBP from 2015 has all the old comforts but is almost 3 years old for almost the same money.  I don't know enough about tech specs to know how much I'm losing in the older v. current version.  Price is within $200 of each other but not sure how much I value the old conveniences vs. the performance of the new machine.

Thunderbolt 3, once you adapt, is a game-changer. One-cable data and power depending on external monitor and/or dock selection is stunning.

That all said, if you can hold off until WWDC, I'd do so.

Unless you're really chomping at the bit to get TB3/USB-C or put that to good use in some way, I'd probably stick with the 2015. I think it was just a better all-around design, except for maybe the screen and the latest ports (again, if you would be putting TB3 to use, that might be a different story). The keyboard is better, the track-pad is more reasonably sized, and it doesn't have that irritating Touch Bar (unless you want that).

But, as Mike said above... if at all possible, wait until at least after WWDC in a month to see if they introduce anything. My son has cash in hand, ready to buy a laptop and I've talked him into waiting. Pshew!
