So much of what I’ve been hoping to see in iOS dynamic interactivity and app unbundling is being presented by Google for Android.
Waiting to see Apple’s version. Hopefully soonish.
Some of the things Google announces today were reallly impressive. I hope Apple really surprises everyone and wows at WWDC.
We see this every single year. Google has Google I/O in May and when they announce all of this stuff we get the BS that Apple isn't innovative and nothing ever comes out of Apple anymore and Google is pulling away and innovating all kinds of things, etc. Then WWDC comes out a month later and its either the exact opposite, or more of the same.
We just need to sit tight and see what Apple has to release in about a month. I'm sure Apple isn't been sitting there for 12 months designing Animojis and only those like some seem to think.
Android P....works on 3 devices just like other versions of Android. Everything else is stuck on 5yr old Android with no support.
You didn't read the article, there's a change from earlier releases where the initial betas were only available to Google's own phones. Besides the Google Pixel phones it's also released yesterday for the
Sony Xperia XZ2
Essential Phone
Nokia 7 Plus
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Oppo R15 Pro
Vivo X21
OnePlus 6
Haha...I knew you would respond to that. I did read it. Sorry...Works on 7 phones and the rest of the Android market is stuck on 5yr old Android with no support. Sorry for the butthurt.
That last sentence indicates what I said upset you. It shouldn't.
Anyway it's still in beta so a wider roll-out wouldn't be expected anyway. The bigger takeaway is Google adding non-Pixel phones to a OS update beta test. Great idea for vetting potential issues on different hardware builds. TBH it's pretty surprising.
Google has been moving more and more of the Android features out of open source and into their closed libraries. Has that changed, or is this a new definition of "open"?

I hope so too. Siri straight needs help.
It’s not good when you see pro Apple writers/analysts wishing Apple was doing things Google is doing. Ben Bajarin has been reliably pro-Apple in his analysis over the years but I see him becoming increasingly more pessimistic, especially around Siri & AI. Ben isn’t someone who writes for clicks. He’s not a concern troll. It really frustrates me that Apple allowed others to leapfrog in this space. I’ll bet a lot more people would use Siri if it was better and more useful.
If it matters that much — so much as to concernanalysts — then surely this would have had a negative impact on sales. It would upset normals. Yet...still the single best selling handset on the market. And while bloggers, pundits, and techies are upset, the mass market of normals doesn’t seem to be. What does this tell us?
I thought Apple was all about giving customers what they didn’t know they wanted/needed? Now it’s OK that Siri sucks and Apple is behind in this space because they’re still selling a ton of iPhones? Btw, Rene Ritchie isn’t a concern analyst. He’s basically an Apple fanboy and he was calling Google out for showing off things he wishes Apple was doing. I hope all this lights a fire under Apple’s ass. I want to be wowed by Apple again. Not here’s some mediocre TV shows we bankrolled because with slowing iPhone growth and longer upgrade cycles we need to find new ways to monetize our existing users to produce revenue/profit growth.

My gut tells me that's exactly what we're gonna get.
I dream of a time when our phones will have true AI. I know this is Sci-Fiction, but a example of a true voice assistant AI would be like in Iron Man where Tony Stark has a Voice Assistant AI name Jarvis then later Friday. He is able to have a causal conversation with his AI. Jarvis & Friday are able to do multiple different task for him as if they are real people. To me that is what I want to see within my lifetime. I am 39 now so maybe within 40 to 50 years I might see that. Right now Siri only works if you have a internet connection, sort of, but I feel that with the right AI computer chip & a proper imbedded AI program there would be no lag & a better user experience. When connected to the web then the AI could use it’s thinking abilities to be more resourceful in finding what you ask. Imagine not really having to pull out your phone much because with a Bluetooth headset you could have a conversation with your AI Voice Assistant in asking it to do different task for you without you having to pull out your phone & do it yourself. When we are truly able to depend on our AI Voice Assistant is when I will truly use it. For now I don’t use Siri. I do everything myself. Right now Siri to me is just a gimmick. I believe one day in the distance future Siri will truly be a AI & a friend just as Jarvis was to Tony Stark. Till that time comes I will keep dreaming.

It tells us that legitimate concerns take a long time to filter out to the general public. For example: Apple no longer demonstrates the level of care and planning in their designs and development that originally earned them their much deserved respect and great profitability. They're burning it, but only the people paying close attention are noticing and rebelling against it. Apple have turned to MBA management and Wall Street pathology to continue their financial success story, so the money keeps pouring in, leaving the impression of continuing to produce superior product. Today, that product is not so much superior as it is less bad than the competition.
I have the feeling that the more so-called AI (not intelligence; merely clever algorithms) that gets put in charge of software/hardware behavior, the more the industry is compounding the already concerning non-deterministic behavior of computing...
OK, thanks for the obvious P jokes here, but what exactly does "P" stand for?
When Google had their sweets/ desserts as names for Android, they were completely open about it. Then we got "O", which I guess was Oreo. So what is "P"?
It’s nothing yet, until they decide on a formal name or reach some kind of co-branding arrangement. Something like “Pepsi”, for example?

Pistachio is the one that I've seen tossed around most often.
No one uses Siri because it sucks. It needs work and I think Apple will respond....in ‘19.
Blathering buffoonery. Everyone who owns an Apple product uses Siri at some point or other.
I love it (NOT) when people make stupid all-encompassing claims like this.
I have NEVER, not even once on any of my many Apple devices, even enabled Siri, let alone used it. Neither has any of my immediate family. Never will, unless/until it does all processing locally.
Now, onward I go to continue reading the rest of the comments. Hopefully better thought out than this one.
